Oh come on.  The insane pairings are always the most fun.  You get to corrupt the happy friendly characters with violence (and sex if the Clans are involved [AAAH]) on the one hand, and on the other you get to see hardened killers trying to figure out what to do with the cute cuddly ponies.  Then you add in the cross reactions between individuals in each group who react differently to the situation and you get a wonderful pile of chaos even before you start worrying about things like the actual story.

For the record, I would really like to see how the ponies and clans react to each other.  The culture shock both ways would be a ton of fun. }:)

Shooting a pony out of a giant Rail Guns can't be all that healthy for the pony. And as for the target, well if its hardened the best you can hope for is some scratched paint and maybe a dent. Oh, and a dead pulped pony lying below said dented and scratched paint.

Actually, at that speed there is really not much difference between a pony and a DU slug of the same mass.  The kinetic energy is sufficient to blow whatever it is up on impact so the actual projectile composition is irrelevant.  That said, a pony will bleed speed off much faster than a compact slug due to air resistance which will also heat it up and vaporize part of its body in transit so it will be less efficient at getting the kinetic energy from the gun to the target, but on the other hand there is magic to consider....

What?  Why are you looking at me like that? ;D

You should have seen how I ended a discussion on Spartans vs. post-Renaissance European firearms in a fantasy setting, just by bringing up the "M"-word.

I would think it was you were shooting the horn down the barrel, and the rest of the pony was along for the ride..

Not really.  At that speed the impact behaves less like a conventional bullet strike and more like a bomb blast.  You need an enormous amount of surface area per unit mass to get significant dispersal effects, and even there the net result could just be more spalling on the inside of the target which has the potential to cause more damage than a more focused strike would.

Just remember there is no magic in battletech, so a pegasus or a unicorn that talks is more likely to be a product from the Magistry of Canopus than anything else.

True, however it does work in MLP so I felt the need to at least mention that it could throw parts of physics out the window.

When Mythbusters used the frozen AND raw chick to blow out the windshield of a fighter craft, they sold me on the fact that you don't need to freeze the pony first ;)

Gentleman, defrost your chickens.
Hmm, now that I think about it, to shoot a pony out of a rail gun do you have it swallow a bucket of iron ball bearings first?

Nothing's wrong with the concept, it's just that the NLRM is pathetic execution of it.  NLRMs are the opposite of Clan LRMs - reduce minimum range by adding weight.  You're always better off using that extra weight for a close-range weapon like a medium laser.  They are a step backwards in missile weaponry, hence NLRMs are GarbageTech.
