Destiny Personal Combat Questions
« on: 01 September 2020, 17:56:21 »
I'm starting to wrap my head around this, and am looking for confirmation or clarification on my understanding of personal combat. (Both example in the book have the target with depleted or non-existent armor, so no help there.)

1) My character fires at a bad guy using a laser rifle (4 damage) and hits. The bad guy is wearing flack armor (-2 damage from ballistic weapons). 4 damage is marked against bad guy's armor and that's it, right?

2) Same situation but weapon is an assault rifle (4 damage). 2 damage is marked against the armor only.

3) Once the target's armor is depleted, the full damage is applied to the Physical Condition Monitor.

4) Flechette weapons basically do half damage to all armor, full damage to squishy bits.

5) Regarding customizing weapons: A standard laser rifle does 4 damage which matches AToW (4E/4). Some laser rifles traded base damage for increased AP (5E/3), and visa versa (3E/5). Damage increase is no problem, but what about better/worse AP? How would you keep this flavor in Destiny?

From my limited knowledge of Destiny:

1) Yes
2) Yes
3) Yes
4) Yes
5) There is no rules for AP in Destiny, I wish there were.

Thank you for the reply.

Well, AP can be worked out with the GM. Since armor appears to be handled a lot like standard BT combat, AP could be the same as a TAC. 2D6 roll of 7 or higher penetrates (possibly variable damage for higher success).

I think you could compare the AP and Armor (M/B/E/X) from ATOW and see how many points get through.

Since the Armor in MW:D seems to be the largest BAR double, maybe double the AP and any damage that gets through is direct Standard or Fatigue damage to the PC?

Good ideas. We're still trying to keep things simple, so looking up and comparing armor vs weapon doesn't fit. But increasing damage to armor (not squishy bits) might suffice... sort of opposite of flechette weapons.

So maybe Double the AP form ATOW and compare to the MW:D Armor. If the AP is more than Armor, the extra points go to Armor? Makes sense is it is Armor Piercing?

I was planning to use the Standard and Burst damage from ATOW as well.

Forgive my speaking from ignorance (since I haven't read the book), but does a laser rifle really count as a ballistic weapon?

It doesn't. That is why he took 4 points of damage rather than 2.
