MekHQ Artillery Skill
« on: 20 August 2022, 19:55:51 »
Does the Artillery Skill in MekHQ require that the legacy RPG skills in MegaMek be enabled?  I'm not clear as to how the artillery skill is supposed to work.  I don't normally set one in non-MekHQ games for artillery units - just the gunnery skill.

No, it doesn't require Legacy to work. It functions in place of Gunnery Skill when dealing with Arty. I always turn it off, more trouble than it's worth really.

I don't mind it for the most part, aside from it being a problem with air-launched Arrow IV since pilots don't get as much XP as ground forces do.  And Princess won't fire artillery if the target number is 13+.  So I usually ensure the artillery skill of supporting units is 4 or better (fatigue can turn a 5 skill/12+ into a 13+ a dozen turns in) before starting.
Think about it.  It's what we do.
