Monbvol's MekHQ Madness
« on: 01 January 2022, 22:36:57 »
First off I'm not really able to do anything too complicated and my abilities to do stuff with MS paint and possibly GIMP(super rusty with that these days it has been so long since I used it) are rather limited.

That said while I hope to eventually add other projects to this thread first up is my re-working of my layered icon enhancements.

Once again I will show a sample of what I'm talking about because that is easier than trying to describe it with words.

I don't have enough re-done to show a new update but I have managed to do a few things already and should make a few notes:

-To keep everything somewhat organized I am going to have to go through and re-organize the default layer options a bit.  I am somewhat considering what will be less of a hassle in terms of keeping things organized.

-I do have quite a bit of stuff that is borrowed from other works that I'm not going to be able to share.

-I am also simply going to have to figure out a way to further subdivide some of my background layers because they are still a mess.  But yes I've managed to get my backgrounds sorted.

-Logos both factional and more unit level logos are also now sorted.

-Blue, Gray, Red, and White versions are on my to do list for everything that can show up inside the frames.  Outside not going to worry about.

So yeah as I mentioned in the release thread it looks like there is some weird issue with my older layered icons and the new ones where it is causing certain elements to break.

When I overwrote them with appropriate copies of the new ones it worked.

I have also hit on an idea for how to organize things so I don't have to reorganize the default stuff and still keep the directory tree reasonably neat and intuitive to use.

Okay I was finally able to make some progress after figuring out the element breaking thing.  Seems the transparency wasn't getting saved correctly with my prior method all the time.  So yeah going to have to go through and just re-do all them to be sure.  Uggh.

But I do have the organization thing figured out now and have that sorted so it will just be a matter of go through and re-color now.

Also found somewhat usable images to add a few more logos.  They need a little re-sizing to be properly functional.  I make no promises about being able to properly do that myself.

Still as a small teaser a little something to show how far I was able to get today.

You know as simple as just going through and recoloring the various elements is actually a rather time consuming process.

But good news I'm probably right around 30-35% finished with the process at this point.  Yeah there's just that many that need re-colored.

I figure I'll go ahead and put up an initial download when I complete an entire set of the re-colors.  I have about I'd say another 70 or so re-colors to go before I finish the white versions.

So I miss counted.  There was something like 130 more images that needed to be re-colored just to finish the white variation.

So to tide you lot over while I finish the Blue, Gray, and Red variants like I promised here you go.

Yes I do have some Blue, Gray, and Red stuff finished in there.  Yes I know some of those graphical icons still have black little greebles but I'm already putting in enough work to get things to this point so you all will just have to deal with it.

All my backgrounds are in there, the logos I feel it safe to share without running afoul of board rules or ip insanity, and same with portraits.

Added bonus is my archive of custom designs.

To be clear I am not done yet.

So I'm actually now over 50% done as the red versions are now complete.

Leaves just gray and blue to finish off.

If I've done it right the same link in the previous post should contain the extra variation now.

Somewhere over 75% complete now!

At least if I didn't skip some.  Hard to tell with Gray and my old eyes.

Also contemplating a change in how I organize this.  Would it be more helpful if I split off the color variations sooner or does this scheme prove more useful?

Again prior link should have my latest progress for those interested if I've done it right.

And it is finished.

Again if I've done things right it is in the same link.

Let me know if you guys want me to change how it's organized or if you want me to put up a link without my mech designs.

You lot are super lucky that I decided to change the organization scheme for my own private use version.

I spotted some white variations that didn't actually get color changed.

Again if I did things right same link above should have the corrected version.  No it still uses the same scheme as before because that I think is most user friendly of the two.

My private version does require altering the existing MekHQ structure to prevent duplication.  If the MekHQ team wants me to provide that version I'll go ahead and yank out the rule 10 violations.  Just let me know.
