AtB Unit Generation Tool and Assorted Goodies

First a shoutout to MoleMan for their contributions to this back in the AtB #4 thread, recently updated it and made it work better with Google Sheets. The tool is best used if downloaded but is almost fully functional online (only the transpose option doesn't work as intended, all core functions are fine).

At present it's set up to generate a company with support staff, I've left out the newer SPAs, however, if someone has added them and has a modified d100 for them then I'll add them. Contains plenty of fluff for people and I'm toying with adding a sheet for generating a trinary, although as I'm not a Clan player I'll need to give that further thought. Anyway feel free to check it out and you can suggest things, I can also be reached via the Discord.

  • Combat Staff
  • Support Staff
  • Origin Fluff
  • SPAs
  • Callsigns (Pulled from public military and civilian lists, with additions from the PC and console games)
  • Phenotype/Bloodname generator for clanners (note: Does not contain bloodnames, merely determines the chance for someone having one. Use sarna to determine the actual blood name)

Version bump, found a v1.14 lurking on my hard drive and folded it into the updated 1.13 and then worked on 1.15. Has some list expansions, more callsigns (2105 now), re-balancing, some debt stuff and a loan calculator. I'm thinking of expanding the origin list next but not sure just yet.

The only question is which Unit No your genereator is refering to? As I could not find the relevant check list I have been using Total Warfare Random Mech Assingments. But I would prefer to honor your work.

Hi, this number refers to the Faction assignment & rarity tables 3028-3050, see this post: https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=1219.0

Alternatively, these tables have been integrated into MekHQ now, so it is easy to roll up a mech using the Manage Campaign > GM tools (I think that's what it is called) tab within MekHQ. You choose the weight, origin faction and overall tech level from the generation tool and it will select an appropriate mech.

Apologies for not answering sooner, as MoleMan mentioned that is what the number refers to (also mentioned the same way I use it myself). The Unit number is pretty much a legacy feature at this point but I left it for those who prefer to use the old method.

Links updated, seems they either expired or Dropbox changed them on me. Either way working now.

Also incrementing the version to 1.16, no new features. Just added a new sheet with a stripped down version of the generator for generating random NPCs/fluff without the unit specific stuff/role specific.

Keep in mind I am still more than willing to take suggestions to add to this. I have some ideas of my own that involves contracts but need to give it some more thought first.

Just to be sure, the spreadsheet auto loads data when opening it, correct? There is no button to press?

Where can I reference the unit numbers?

-You can force a refresh using an f-key depending on the software you are using to open the file. I am using open office, so it's f4

Delayed response here as well (a bricked laptop does that to you), any resources in this sheet may be used by anyone in any way they see fit. They are pulled from public resources, Against the Bot and various franchised games.

Edit: Also thank you to users supporting this in my stead. I appreciate it.
Also in addition to the advice given, each tab actually has a checkbox which should actually reroll the results instead of requiring a key shortcut (handily labelled sheet refresh) and the online spreadsheet is set to reroll the data hourly if memory serves.

Didn't reply to the above comment but did check out the thread and have been slowly expanding the callsigns. Bumping this up to see if anyone has any suggestions on areas of expansion or features they'd like me to consider adding.

This tool seems really great! But I think there's something basic about it that I don't understand, and I don't see instructions.  What exactly is that yellow area, and what is a transpose row?  What am I supposed to paste there, and what does pasting there do?

Is there any way to import a randomly generated unit into MekHQ?  Or do you have to go person by person and build them in MekHQ based on what the spreadsheet gave you?

Edit:  I guess I figured it out - "transpose" is just an option that lets you cut and paste a row from the outcome of the sheet into the column format highlighted yellow.  Is that just for ease of viewing?

There isn't a way to import them as is just yet (other than manually). I have, however been toying with adding such a function to the sheet, which would just require copy and pasting into a mul file. Which is really just a renamed .txt file the user would have to make. That said I am unlikely to add that before the end of the month, although I may be able to do an initial pass at it next week bit no promises there. I may look towards improving the layout as well.
