IWM Miniature Scales
« on: 25 August 2022, 10:24:20 »
Greetings all!

I’m posting today for a special request. The Iron Wind Metal minis can be very hit and miss when it comes to scale, especially when compared to the often larger new minis from CGL. My current forces are mostly composed of the newer minis, but I do have quite a few from IWMs. The scale from some of them like the Jade Hawk and Shrike, compares rather favorably to the new minis while others like the Eyrie and Gyrfalcon are gigantic! On the other hand you have things like the Bruin which is smaller than many medium mechs! The most adorable little assault!

I’d like to see if anybody has pictures of the following minis that they could post next to some of the new CGL minis for scale comparisons: Templar III, Ocelot, Doloire, Lament, Trebaruna, Juliano, Blood Asp, Mad Cat MK II (especially the newer versions like Enhanced and 5).

Thank you all, you are awesome!

I have the Lament, Juliano and a MC Mk II E . . . if I can remember to get pictures.  Off the top of my head, the Lament might be a bit big but it was the same timeframe the Thunderbolt 1C was made which is outsized.  Actually, I have a pic of the Juliano up . . .

Weird, it seems the pic is gone. https://bg.battletech.com/forums/miniatures/4th-regulan-hussars-combat-group-wip/

Google states the following for what an "URL signature expired" means:

Quote
An expiring link, also called signed URL, is a link to a file or object that is limited in time. Once it expires, the link is no longer valid. This has to advantage that the link cannot be used on another site since it expires in any given time by the rightful owner of the link.

Here is the Juliano with the new Supernova and Archer.

Two-parter, Lament with primitive Thunderbolt . . . the Thunderbolt is WAY big.

As can be seen with the TBolt next to old AS Lance Pack plastics which matched the original RP/IWM minis.

For what it's worth, here is a Mad Cat Mk ?? . . . whatever one has the double ERLL in each arm . . . 4?  5?

The only sense of scale this old picture can give you is with the standard hex size base.

Ok, that is what I get for posting in the middle of the night when I could not sleep and remembered.  Fixed the photo comparing the prim TBolt with the Alpha Strike originals.

Yeah, I like the Lament . . . need to run it again.

For additional reference, I have 3 Thunderbolts.

The left is the Primitive, the center is the CGL plastic from AGoAC, and the right is a Project Phoenix model.  Once I ran them as a TDR-5S, TDR-5SS, and TDR-5SE once.

But yeah, the older IWM models tend to be a bit smaller than normal.  I actually had someone confuse an Avatar as a Medium Mech.  I have an old school Timber Wolf that I'll probably run as a Mad Cat III more than a Timber Wolf.

Ive noticed that the miniatures have got larger over the years. I think the scale is closer to 1/250 over the 1/300 scale. The Timber Wolf mechs that I have got over the decades have got larger.

The early Clan Omnis were weirdly scaled, hard to use them as a measuring stick- the Dire Wolf was medium mech sized!

Thanks for posting that pic of the Lament, Colt. I have three, and not one is assembled. I need to get in gear, and get out the glue.

The Lament was my introduction to the Radical Heat Sink system, which brought about true love.  It is a fine mini, I really like it and even ordered a spare set of Lament arms for my part's box.  I am thinking about using them for a project and really happy I got them.

Greetings!

Hunting for another picture of scale!

Could a kindred soul post a picture of the IWM Marauder IIC next to some Catalyst stuff?  :)

Why not both? :3

If they are roughly the same size either will do, I don't need my minis to be perfectly scaled to each other, but some IWM minis tend to be either HUGE or TINY for their size. *looks at Bruin sternly*

From memory the IWM Marauder IIC 2/3(whatever has the HLL from Phoenix uprades) scales pretty well, but I will snag a photo later.
