The
Valkyrie was one of the few Unseen 'Mechs that first appeared in
Technical Readout: 3025 and the only Macross-based Unseen. It's also one of two Classic 'Mechs to get an Iron Wind Metals miniature before the most recent Harmony Gold lawsuit, but it didn't reach distribution. We'll talk more about that shortly. If you'd like to learn about using it in game, see its
'Mech of the Week article. (Humming Wagner is optional and best done sparingly.)
Catalyst Game Labs originally unveiled some of the Classic designs for 'Mechs years ago. The second Classic mini released by Iron Wind Metals was the
Valkyrie. They listed it in the release schedule and I believe they had done at least one production run - but the release was cancelled after the lawsuit was filed, so this mini never saw an official release. It was available as a con exclusive after the lawsuit was resolved, but my details are fuzzy about when this was, for how long, and if this is still an option. (If you're curious, I recommend asking IWM politely!)
The
Valkyrie has only had a few sculpts through the years:
- The original sculpt (20-851).
- The plastic mini from the CityTech Second Edition box set, based on the metal sculpt.
- The Reseen sculpt (20-221).
- The Classic sculpt from IWM (originally 20-5149). (CamoSpecs Online has a placeholder page but I don't know if the eventual future release will be the same sculpt.)
- And, most recently, the plastic mini released by CGL in the Inner Sphere Command Lance set.
If you have any of these painted, please share pictures. We'd love to see them!
Our next two fortnights will be:
- 8/29: Archer
- 9/12: Phoenix Hawk
