Miniature of the Fortnight #142: Phoenix Hawk

The
Phoenix Hawk
is one of the iconic medium 'Mechs in BattleTech, hailing back to
Battledroids
. One of the best recon 'Mechs from the 3025 era, it continues to be an Inner Sphere mainstay in any era. By now, you probably know the
Phoenix Hawk
and there's not much I can tell you about it that isn't mentioned elsewhere. Check out its
'Mech of the Week article
.
Despite its popularity (or maybe because it's so iconic), the Phoenix Hawk has only had a small number of sculpts:
The
original sculpt
(20-833), also appearing in resin and plastic.
The
Reseen PHX-4L sculpt
(20-988).
The
Reseen PHX-5L sculpt
, available in the Bounty Hunter Companion 'Mechs set (10-051).
And, most recently, the
Classic sculpt
released in plastic by CGL
If you have any of these painted, please share pictures! We'd love to see them!
Our next two fortnights will be:
10/17:
Crusader
10/31:
Wasp

Here is a Classic sculpt from the KS. Love the mini, lots of nice detail, and still room to put on some decals if you want. 4th Davion Guards parade scheme:

Nothing complicated with mine. Just a little more of the Brown Pants Legion.

A Ral Partha metal, FASA plastic, and a [tiny] PXH-4L with the head of a [gigantic] RP Battledroids Falcon swapped in that I use for my Falcon.

One of my favorites in my collection is this phenomenal mini painted up by CSO's Lance Scarinci: Jason Youngblood's
Phoenix Hawk
.

For an alternate pose, the RP Battledroids Fire Bee with PXH jump jets added makes a lovely Phoenix Hawk. Tracy Maxwell Kent's 'Dutiful Daughter' in the mottled camouflage of the GDL:

Ah, the Phoenix Hawk... I have painted no other 'Mech as often as I have this one...
We will start with the bland ones that date back to the early '90s, before a new paint style and my obsession with reposing / bashing.
Davion - Sakhara Military Academy - PXH-50C Phoenix Hawk
(technically this represents a PHX-HK2 Phoenix Hawk LAM with the conversion equipment removed, but the miniature is the standard PXH-1)
Davion - Sakhara Military Academy - PXH-1D Phoenix Hawk
Davion - Albion Military Academy - PXH-1D Phoenix Hawk
Kurita - 2nd An Ting Regiment - PXH-1K Phoenix Hawk
Kurita - 2nd An Ting Regiment - PXH-1K Phoenix Hawk
Kurita - 2nd An Ting Regiment - PXH-1 Phoenix Hawk
Kurita - 2nd An Ting Regiment - PXH-1K Phoenix Hawk
No we move on to the ones from the late 2000s when I returned to painting, changed my paint style and embraced the madness of repose...
These next three are some of the only ones I've ever repainted (polyurethane ambers, and does nasty things to your white miniatures - less learned)... Originally they were painted before any of the ones above, and were first of my 23rd Arcturan Guards project.
Steiner - 23rd Arcturan Guards - PXH-1 Phoenix Hawk
Steiner - 23rd Arcturan Guards - PXH-1 Phoenix Hawk
Steiner - 23rd Arcturan Guards - PXH-1 Phoenix Hawk
Finally, one of my favorite reposes...
Marik - 9th Marik Militia - PXH-1 Phoenix Hawk
Note: All of the reposed Phoenix Hawks were the same standard one piece PXH as the ones above. None of them were the multi-part version that I know exists, but have never owned.

Three Phoenix Hawks. Following the pattern I have apparently, one Project Phoenix and two new plastics. Project Phoenix one is from 7 years ago when I was first getting back into painting. ComGuard one is from the same friend again.
