Miniatures of the Fortnight #122: Mongoose and Mongoose II
« on: 15 September 2021, 20:28:23 »
This fortnight, we look at an iconic scout 'Mech and its successor.  The Mongoose has been with us since Technical Readout: 2750 and is one of the first 'Mechs to feature the Beagle Active Probe.  (We haven't covered the other 'Mech with a Beagle Probe from TRO 2750 - yet.)  During the Jihad, ComStar would commission a successor 'Mech, the Mongoose II, which is basically a larger Mongoose MON-66b.  Neither 'Mech has a 'Mech of the Week article - but they're recon 'Mechs with Active Probes.  (You probably know how to use these 'Mechs better than I do!)

The Mongoose has had three sculpts:The Mongoose II has only had one sculpt (20-5026).

If you have any of these 'Mechs (MongoosesMongeese?) painted, please share pictures.  We'd love to see them!

As always, thank you for reading!

Our next two fortnights will be:
  • 9//27: Corvus and Great Wyrm
  • 10/11: Champion and Exterminator/

Just a simple Mongoose for the Lyran Regulars, nothing fancy.

I've liked the idea of clan refit of the Mongoose since before the Mongoose C was a thing, and I figured it should look different from the base model the way the IIC 'mechs look different from their original versions. TRO:Golden Century and the Gunslinger mini covered both bases, just needed to do a little conversion work.

Com Guards Mongoose II

"Deep down, I suspect the eject handle on the Hunchback IIC was never actually connected to anything. The regs just say it has to be there."
