My Battletech Minis.
« on: 21 June 2020, 02:53:11 »
I've got a ton of minis I've painted to a tabletop army standard. Not many showpieces, but a lot of minis.

Figure I'll post some of them here.

It's a well known fact that cameras induce flaws in mini painting that didn't exist before you took the photo, And now you know!

Couple of general photo hints.

1) Pull back. Put at least 2', better 3', between you and the mini. This "increases the focal length" - eg. the whole mini will stay in focus, and a group of minis will all be in the same focus.

2) This leads to minis in the centre of a lot of dead space, so use a free image tool - I recommend Irfanview, but you can use MS Paint - to crop off the dead space around the minis. Then you can resize the remaining image so it's closer to actual size when shown on screen.

There are other things in Irfanview like auto-colour-adjust, or sharpen, that I find handy compensating for my poor photo-fu ;)

Missile shotgun urbie and scary urbie. I also have the the original arm magnetized, but we've all seen that pic.

I'm considering whether to pint the mini WOB or combine. Maybe the missile arm combine red and the rest C* colors?

There's a canon Urbie with a MRM 30. I'm just being sloppy about ports, because nobody's going to count (There's 35, a 20 and a 15 in there.)

Here's a raptor (config A) and a charger 1a5.

So there are!  I just assumed they were the same after counting 20 ports on the top one.  Still, you need clan tech to get that far...

Another magnetized arm swap on one of the new plastics. Gladiator E

Also working on a nova (prime, E and D, maybe B) and grendel (prime, F, E, J)

and another kickstarter omni swap. I got a salvage Adder, and one of the prime is enough. The first set of arms is swapping the barrels on the arms it comes with for missiles. It's a fit for the E, but I think I'd be forgiven for trying to handwave it as an A or C

The second come from the maelstrom. They're a bit oversize; still, I suspect it'll look good painted, and could work for for the B, D, and maybe K configs.

A pair o' death commandoes (rifleman, cataphract) and the puma from above, painted now.

Edit - the green somehow bled all over the photo, including places it isn't in real life. weird.

And more adders. If I get another in salvage boxes I'll be cross. The arms from the original sculpt are just sad, so they were replaced with falconer bits.

I'd appreciate feedback on whether you prefer green base or green on black, it'll influence later painting.

Death Commandos. Did some mods on the Ti Ts'ang, adding barrels for the chest lasers as it was the lance pack sculpt.

I prefer the darker green on the Jade Emperor, but it's oil based and a pain to use. I might mix n match between them later.

Jumping Panther and Daimyo (3070 Sabers). Building the legs on the latter was miserable to get right, but I'm generally happy with how it turned out.

Thinking of covering the rod on the panther with a "smoke" cotton ball. Wouldn't be hard to take off if it didn't work.

anyone have an idea on how to convert a plastic hunchback IIC to a HB IIC 3? (The one with three ATM 12s.)

If I can't figure that out, my second one will probably be modded to a -5SP/-5SS with magnets to swap between the two

That's supposted to be a Lyran Royal orion. It's a bit bluer than it looks in the photo, but I don't think it worked quite right.

The other is a Death Commando victor. Black and glowing green, that's how you know the stealth armor is working.
