The Urbanmech Company box... Apparently it exists!
« on: 23 July 2022, 13:41:24 »
A couple of people have been asking for more Urbanmechs, way more Urbanmechs! I wanted a lance or company box of Urbanmech, to date I have been disappointed.

Apparently there's a single Urbanmech box coming to retail in ~November [CAT36002], but that's not what I mean.

Ash Barker from Guerrilla Miniature Games apparently got his from Catalyst...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Sj8_PZJksY
Take a look at timestamp 11:18
(Added a screenshot in the attachments.)

Where do I get something like that? What does it cost? Can Catalyst please add this box to the Mercenaries Kickstarter. $50-$60 would make it sell like hotcakes (twice the price of the Comstar lvl II boxes or 20% over the Inner Sphere retaliation box)... Oh... A Urbanmech regiment! ;-)

Randall may have sent that as a joke, but he's a fool if he doesn't offer it for sale!  :D

I really hope not, as some of use are not US based (quite a lot of us)...

I know the Retaliation pack (the 10 AGoAC and beginner box mechs) was con exclusive and it was offered via the last KS, so hopefully if it does see production it’s available that way also.

I would go for four different variants but agreed only the crazy (and maybe hardcore Capellans) would go for a company of urbans.

Every desert planet would have a company of Urbanmechs (atleast), what else would the Jawas trade in? ;-)

I see the Urbanmech as the cheap Mech that every militia uses. You know, those that can just afford to upgrade their ICE tanks to Mechs will buy an Urbanmech. And when they need their second or twelfth it's just cheaper to buy another Ubie, the parts, the experience, etc.

So at least a single Urbanmech company box would be painted up as the default 'local militia'. Another box would probably be used for pirate/merc and the occasional unit specific paintjobs...

Or even better, i your campaign the players find a Star League cache of Mechs, a regiment of them! All Urbanmechs... *grins evily*

You enter the Star League era control room, it powers up as you enter... A console with rows upon rows of green lights on the Mech storage cubicles, there must be enough Mechs still in here to field a regiment. As you look out the window across the massive hangar floor, the lights turn on, one by one! Wait... Is that an Urbanmech! And another, and another!

As mentioned above, I think I'd prefer the Retaliation pack (maybe upgraded with a Vindicator instead of two Wolverines) again to an Urbie company, but I'd be darn curious to get sales numbers on how many of those Urbie companies sold in the KS.

My plan is to paint up a lance as a little plan I've had, maybe convert some to UM-AIVs for various factions (CapCon, WoB, aforementioned force), maybe paint up an UrbanCop to run as a UM-K9, then sell the rest to friends. Or heck, I might do a whole UrbanCop lance just for funsies, who knows.

Definitely hoping they're available to Kickstarter backers though, cons aren't really in the cards for me for a while.

Unfortunately an Urbie company is way too hightech for my generic militia, though at least one of my local players is salivating for these. :)

A company of 3 lances of bug mechs would be very cool indeed.

If this will actually be in the Mercenaries kickstarters, then you know where the money is gonna go....

Also i am exited for the Kickstarter! How it is as good as the Clan Kickstarter!

Not 100% true. It did see a small retail release in Canada. Some stores might still have some as well.

Mercer Ravennon, get off of Elmoth's account.

A company of Urbanmechs would be a solid counter to a company of bugs. Cheaper, higher firepower. Sure the bugs could bypass them but they couldn't afford to get close to the urbies. Make the urbies Suburbanmechs, or LL mods and the Bug Horde dies on the Urbie hoard.

Hmmm... I see an event in the future. Urbies vs Bugs! FIGHT!

I would want a company of bugs to break it into component parts fot other lances. You never have enough scouts since they should be a dime a dozen according to the background.

Now, a ravannion night would also be cool

Well, sure, I'd hope the UMs would do relatively well. That company is rocking an extra one-hundred-twenty tonnes of mass/gear than the bug-horde.

You could just as easily say a company of JVNs, SDRs, or VLKs would destroy a company of LCTs, STGs, and WSPs.

The key, of course, is that the UM-company--as a line maneuver unit--has no viability past the microscopic vignette of a gameboard. Tactically, operationally, and even strategically, a company of UMs has less versatility than a company of infantry mounted on trucks.

Apropos to the topic, I'd think long and hard about getting a UM company if offered, but I didn't end up springing for another in the last KickStarter after all. I already have 6-7 (original metal) of them and have no desire to paint the remainder after the initial lance. Realistically, other than the ridiculosity factor (which is not to be discounted, to be fair), if it came in at a price of the Retaliation Pack, I'd be hard pressed to get twelve 'Mechs I would almost never use over 8-10 designs that will absolutely fill out opposing forces.

Speaking solely from a spacelift perspective, I'd rather take the same tonnage in A4 Catapults. Half the hulls and launchers at twice the speed will still be better tactically and operationally. And then my infantry support won't look like speed demons.

Blazer Cannons are available in 3025...  ^-^

A Blazer on a UM is still a Blazer that can't get to where it's needed when it's needed. I'd rather put it on a truck and drive it there (hyperbole, but I gather you get my point).

At the end of the day, I welcome the UM Company box and won't say I won't get it...but my earlier point still stands. I can use more TDRs, AWSs, GRFs, LCTs, etc. than a horde of UMs.

Now, a horde of LCTs, STGs, and WSPs. Yes please. Two. Even at the same price point of the IS: R boxes with their even mix of weight classes.

I feel I will always miss the composition of the old FASA/RP-era lance boxes. They really informed how I imagine lances and companies being made up.
