Key concern I'd have with these vehicles is that all four chasses are different:

DZ-1 - a 25-ton bulldozer/digger
DZ-2 - a 20-ton dumper that can handle 6.5 tons of cargo
DZ-3 - a 35-ton Pile Driver/liquids carrier
DZ-4 - a 30-ton with 6 tons of payload and a single AC/2

For a brand new colony you don't have that much maintenance capacity, yet here there are four different engine and chassis sizes.

The first change I'd make is converting all four vehicles to the same mass.  Since the largest is 35 tons, make them all 35-tons in mass.  From there, you already have them moving at the same speed, so that should make them the same complexity/cost, meaning one engine can be used to work in any vehicle.

Similarly, having all the chasses getting the same structural options means parts for one vehicle can be used for other vehicles as well, instead of trying to convert structure for a 20-ton DZ-2 to work on a 35-ton DZ-3.

Ideally, you'd design them as 35-ton 'Omnivehicles', but instead of paying for the full Omni capability, you just have the same basic hull for all four, and just add other attachments as appropriate.  So the Bulldozer/digger will be 35 tons, and might have a bit of extra cargo capacity.  The Dumper will have a cargo size appropriate for its larger mass.  The DZ-4 might have its AC/2 removed in order to carry better cargo.

Suggestion:
DZ-1 - only has the cargo capacity.  This will serve as your 'default' configuration.
DZ-2 through DZ-4 - various other civilian configurations
DZA-1 through DZA-4 - various armed variants of their appropriate civilian equivalents.

One idea for the armed version would be the Dumper getting the equivalent of a Field Gun, and storing that in the back of its cargo bay.  Even better is if it had 15 tons of cargo capacity, you could put in a single AC/2, 1 ton of AC/2 ammo, and mark the rest of it as 'loose gravel' and assign some amount of armor points to it to reflect the gravel taking lighter hits instead of the AC/2.

It would be best if it had enough cargo to transport acutal Field Gun/Artillery platoons...  ^-^

I agree with what you are saying for the most part. The point of each of them being armed though is to be able to fight off any local wildlife if necessary. The AC2 is the big gun here for those extra-large/tough creatures that a M2 couldn't handle.

The DZ-3 is basically a Haliburton pumper truck with an internal tank and the ability to set its own pilings which is why the fluid gun is on the turret. the idea there is that it sets the pilings, and the work crew builds the form to the pilings, and then the truck fills the form between the pilings with concrete to form the wall for your compound.

The main partner to the DZ-1 the DZ-2 takes the loess of what the DZ-1 pulls out and moves it out of the way when simply pushing it elsewhere isn’t an option. Its dump bed is capable of holding 15.5 tons of overburden and its single M2-Browning provides its defense against local fauna.

The DZ-3 is the first of the team of vehicles that puts down structure with its heavy duty pile driver and fluid gun. Using the backhoe as a makeshift crane to put the pilings into place, the pile driver drives them into the ground so that the work crew can attach the mold boards and rebar before the fluid gun fills the form with concrete.

The command vehicle for the team, the DZ-4 usually carries cargo along with its big gun (a General Motors class-2 autocannon) which is there to kill anything the three machine guns cannot handle on their own and the fluid gun and its fast setting concrete cannot immobilize.

I agree with what you are saying for the most part. The point of each of them being armed though is to be able to fight off any local wildlife if necessary. The AC2 is the big gun here for those extra-large/tough creatures that a M2 couldn't handle.

The new setups look good, though for me the DZ-4 with its AC/2 needs a bigger gun.  If it is supposed to engage targets that the Machine Guns can't handle, then it needs a weapon that does more damage than a MG.  Drop 2 tons of cargo and you can convert that AC/2 into an AC/5.  You'll lose half the endurance (45 turns -> 20 turns), but going from 2 pts damage to 5 pts damage means aanything that is resistantto MG fire will know it has been hit.

The fun part is if you can get the right Special Pilot Abilities to boost your Autocannon skill: Sharpshooter, Sniper, or just Weapon Specialist.  If there is another ability that gives bonus damage to autocannon fire that would also be useful.


The secondary trailers look nice, and by being close to half the weight of the vehicles means the math is fairly easy about how many each vehicle can pull.

The DZT-2 with its MASH Equipment and Mobile Kitchen I might want to split into two vehicles (one for medical support, one for food prep), but that is merely personal preference on my part.

these are set for 2470 the light ACs haven't been invented yet

edit: as for moving up to an AC-5, consider an option with the appropriate cargo loss, but the standard is the AC-2

not available under standard construction, i would have to use the experimental tech level rules to have a rifle cannon
