Seems like the British have their own ready supply of the ore and probably figure better to sign off on letting the other powers chop up Switzerland than risk a war with all the major powers at once.  I'm sure they weren't happy about it but it also froze Russia out of the deal too so that has to be a consolation prize.  At least I'm pretty sure Russia was left out anyway.  Need to go read through that part more carefully.

It's a lot harder to remain independent and neutral when you have something everyone else wants.  Navigating the Alps might be difficult for Levs but not impossible.  That kind of neutralizes their first line of defense.  Still there is supposed to be a robust Swiss resistance in the mix so they aren't going all that quietly.

It is in Armored Skies, done IIRC as a opening statement for the treaty signed in Berlin . . . 1910?  1911?

I fully intend to build a Swiss Liberation Front force as soon as we have enough details to do so.

I expect Operation Hannibal to play out much like the Terran Hegemony parts of the First Succession War, complete with the very well-armed New Dallas-style locals. Kinda hoping we also see situations where one of the occupying powers provides clandestine material support to Swiss forces in other powers' slice of the pie, solely to distract and slow down their rivals.

And when those supplies inevitably get turned against their benefactors, your can play scenarios where both sides have ships from the same faction. One side has modern fully stocked ships, the other has older(and probably lighter) stuff, but knows the Alps like the backs of their hands and has prepared ALL the ambushes.

New update dropped with a preview of the Italian fleet, and hoo boy, they do NOT half-ass their torpedo salvos! That battlecruiser alone...MIRVtacular!

Are we sure there weren't any time travelling Manticorans in the design teams for the italians? Because that torpedo throw weight feels like there should be a Harrington in command..

Also, what we have so far in fiction is the British are neutral- have they finally joined the Allied Powers?

I'm pretty sure they've joined the Central Powers.  With ganymedes allowing France to keep pressuring Britain in Africa, the Entente Cordiale never got going.  Thus the British will happily aid anyone who's fighting against France.
Italy, on the other hand, was offered Corsica as a bribe to join in with the French.

In addition, they've said that ALL backers will receive a free set of ship cards to update every card released with the original core box and fleet boxes. And that if you don't want those cards, a different card pack will be available.

Plus PDFs, I think.

So are the Italians the Jeune École proponents in this time, for Leviathans anyways?

Except the Germans are avoiding the Brits in SE Asia and the Indian Ocean when it kicks off to avoid being forcefully interned.  And when the XO eventually (at least 6 months) gets back to Berlin, his next posting is dealing with commerce raiders in the North Sea.

19th-century naval theory, primarily French, that one should basically take the "glass cannon swarm" approach when attacking battleships. The first concepts called for small ships with heavy guns, but became much more popular with the dawn of the torpedo age.

Ah. Kinda like the folks in the early U.S. that wanted to scrap every ocean-capable ship in the Continental Navy(and later US Navy) and rely solely on single-gun coastal row galleys.

The Italians do really like their speed, but by all indications they have no issues deploying heavy ships. That battleship is going to be particularly nasty despite having a lower throw-weight then competitors, because some of that nimbleness is reflected in being treated as a size smaller than it actually is - unless some advanced initiative rules are being used, Vesuvius will ALWAYS move after every other battleship on the board has finished moving.

So $372k as of this morning with 5 days or less to go . . . I think it is safe to say they will hit $400k which means a new story, the core 5 get their new destroyers, and LTs & above get a free cruiser too.  I think we will probably get to $450k with the way the last days go, two campaign boxes will be good . . . I wonder if they will have allied fleet options?  So far there are 38 merchant backers while Clan Invasion had 197 . . . I do not think that is bad considering the difference in following.  Be interesting to see how much of a spike merchant backers got after GenCon.

While we have talked about the main powers, some of the second class powers could get very interesting.  FREX, Brazil has a mix of British and French designs that were retired or purpose built for them with a military alliance to the US.  Then consider the Ottoman Empire got their noses rubbed in losing to the Italians in a war that lasted less than a year causing them to scramble and get their own Leviathans but we have no indications where they came form or if they bought their own.

It's not that you couldnt use heavy ships, it's just your navy was primarily geared for hit and run style attacks rather then long drawn out fights. The battlecruiser itself was originally thought up as a variant of it. It's meant for raiding and killing smaller ships, not for use on a battle line (originally).

For a really ridiculous take on it, look at the Japanese torpedo cruiser versions of Kitakami and Oi. Run in, fire a MASSIVE broadside of torpedos, turn around, fire the other broadside, get the heck out of dodge.

. . . 20 guns in a broadside?  Where those light cruiser caliber?

While the IJN was experienced operating fleets, before engaging the USN had they really experienced much carrier warfare?  Or was this a last grasp of the surface combatants against the carrier advocates?

Ok, make more sense- both in design & contextually . . . but it still circles back to building something this big and expecting it to dash in close enough to unleash those torpedoes while they are building a excellent carrier force . . .

But that does make me wonder about the Italian ship pictures, those torpedo turrets do not look any different than the gun turrets in other pictures.

So looking at Kicktraq and doing a little math, if the last two days earn at least half of what the first two days earned, we're probably on course to hit $500k.
