That's what trashed most of our rivers.

Nah, it's pure mud. The anchor comes up in the morning with globs of it.

Not a lot of farms in Alabama. Lots of trees, though.

Only about 50 more miles to go until Mobile! We will likely make it half a day early, by tomorrow this time I should be posting on good wifi. Instead of hoping my post gets through on a half a bar of service.

Pictured below, a foggy morning was had. But here it is clearing up nicely. And the second pick is sandstone bluffs, called Claire's Bluff on the charts.

While we sat and waited the fog out this morning, this brave soul ventured out. Of course, minutes later he was calling on the radio asking if anyone was out there.

Half an hour later, and the fog was cleared.

We don't chance it. It's a pleasure cruise, not a misery cruise!

But when we were on Lake Huron and Lake Michigan, yeah, we went through some really thick fog at night. We sailed 24/7 to get out of that cold damp hell called the Great Lakes in October. That was misery the whole time, stopping even for fog would just prolong it.

By the way... WE MADE IT! We're at Turner Marina in Mobile, Alabama. Wifi, hot showers, and good people all around here. The boating community is pretty damned friendly.

2nd ship is a Spearhead JHSV, it's theater transport. I don't see a hull number in your picture. I think it's the future, USNS Apalachicola (T-EPF-13)

The first one is a LCS-32. Independence Class ship, the future USS Santa Barbara .

Hmm, the LCV is an Austal design, the JHSV is an INCAT design. Curious that both are being built by Austal in the US.

My dad was RN, aircraft fitter on carriers in the Med. Did a couple of months on IIRC an S-boat, because they were desperate for engine crew. Never again ...

Got the Reverse Cycle Pump cleaned out and running perfectly today. Check. Heat and AC are good to have.

Friday we take the mast off the boat and put it on land to do work on it, so that on Monday (tentatively) we can put it back upright for sailing.

Things are slowly proceeding.

Best to take your time and enjoy the sights. Who knows when you'll be there next time. You should go see USS Alabama and it's park while your in the area. If your into military museums.

Well, don't forget, I'm actually moving to Florida. I'll be cruising around the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Islands for years to come.

Well, we're still in Mobile!

The boat is slowly getting prepared for the open sea. My dad only planned a month here, but I secretly figured six weeks at least. But that's OK. The weather has mostly been good, so I don't mind. I hope I never see snow ever again, personally.

Anyway, to commemorate this journey of more than 2,000 miles (so far) with my dad, I finally got my Anchor tattoo today. Check it out.

That's a good one! The Navy discourages them these days. If you get one, you have to explain it in a small mountain of paper work (what's it mean, why'd you get it, etc., etc.).

We had snow twice this week, and they "closed" the government Monday and Friday. The trains were still running, so I made it in both days. Monday was MUCH more productive than Friday, but both were better than anything in between. We'll see how this next week goes...

Yes, I've heard about the military, and government agencies (think FBI, CIA, etc...) that now frown on "identifying marks". They are allowed, but yeah, they will give you a hard time about it, and I do not doubt the paperwork involved.

It's snowed a ton in Detroit since we left. And ice storms. I may have to see snow. We're planning to fly back to Michigan to get the rest of our belongings and drive them down in a U-Haul, as well as bring the Buick down.

I'm pretty sure that the military was discouraging tattoos 20 years ago when I considered enlisting.
