Lizardmen (I'm looking at you, Scathaa!) better what out for the furry Ape people!

Earlier this week in Chicago we saw Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.  Cool movie, though I was hoping to have seen Dune in the theater.  It's out now, of course, but I am nowhere near a theater to see it.

Also, this is the first time I saw a movie in a theater since the outbreak of Covid.  I was glad to be back, even if I had a mask on.

Finally watched "A quiet place 2" last night, and liked it almost as much as the first, but MAN the ending was meh..  Though it left it WIDE open for a third.

Got "Free guy" for watching tonight

Dune (2021)..liked it, glad to see that part 2 got greenlit.

Night Teeth..also liked it. The trailer makes it look like Megan Fox is a lead, she is not.

Jolt..again, I liked it. It's definitely a popcorn flick, don't sweat the "science".

Watching King Arthur: Legend of the Sword on Netflix.

It's... okay.  Arthur looks like he's been taking Super Soldier Serum, which is annoying.

The Card Counter (2021)- Oscar Isaac as a gambler with a past. I was intrigued because its directed by the guy who wrote Taxi Driver, and it was a decent movie, though slow in parts. The structure is pretty similar to his previous movie Light Sleeper. Rating: 5.5/10

The Auschwitz Report (2021)
movie about the real life escape of two death camp prisoners and their efforts to make the Allies bomb that camp during the war. Somewhat good, though also slow in parts. Rating: 6/10

Copshop (2021) Gerard Butler stars as a hitman who ends up in a desert jail so he could kill his target. It's sort of like Assault on Precinct 13. I had low expectations and it turned out better than I expected, though it did peter out in the end. Rating: 6.5/10

Chapelwaite (2021) TV miniseries starring Adrien Brody. Its based on the Stephen King short story, which is a prequel to Salem's Lot. Not bad at all, but the pace is very, very slow. Similar to the first season of The Terror. Haven't finished it yet, but I think it's worth a watch if youre the patient kind. Rating: 7/10

I need to properly re-watch that.  The internet was pretty lousy on first watch and that may well be a part of why I found it so underwhelming.  Still knowing as much as I do about computers both helped and hurt.  Overall I'd only give it a 4/10.

Also watched Space Jam New Legacy.  Pretty much by the numbers what I'd expect for a sequel.  Another one where my knowledge of computers both helped and hurt.  I'd give it a solid 6/10 but could be convinced to go up to 7/10.

Third big movie I watched this week was Black Widow.  It wasn't bad.  I guess I was kind of hoping it'd be focused a bit differently but another solid but not top tier movie.  7/10.

Watched the DUNE movie in an IMAX theater.

Good part: graphics

Bad part: several times during the movie the background sounds/effects would cover the actual dialogue.  Sometimes the music seemed to be 'warbling', not sure if that was a problem with the speakers or the file sent to the theater.  Friend watched it at home and he had no problems, so likely not the original file.

As someone who's liked some other poker/gambling films, even the ben afleck Runner Runner, i might have to give that a look up.

The gambling scenes are the best part, and the movie sort of weakens when it moves away from it.

Just watched Wrath of Man (2021) with Jason Statham as an armored car guard with a past. Not very realistic, and everyone seems to talk like a wise guy. So-so. Rating: 5/10

Betrayal at Attica (2021)
Documentary about the prison revolt and subsequent massacre. Intense. I started watching it while eating dinner, and that was a big mistake when the gruesome pictures of copses started. Big mistake. Rating: 8.5/10

Watched Batman: The Long Halloween Part 1 last night.  Part of DC's new animated movieverse, along with Superman: The Man of Tomorrow and Justice Society: World War Two.

Good movie, has a much longer buildup than the average DC Animated film since it's a two-parter.  Going to watch Part Two tonight.
