I like the PAC's ... but I just realized a PAC-8 can't take down an elemental in one shot, not even a standard IS suit. Anything smaller/lighter is fair game though. Used in a point, I think it can do some damage, more so when utilizing alt ammo.
Does AP ammo have any additional effect against BA?

Since there's no standard rules for crits on BA, I would imagine not.
However, there are TacOps rules for BA crits based on the same unit in the point getting hit multiple times. Maybe utilize those rules a bit?

Unfortunately, on Protomechs, unless you *have* to use special munitions, improved Heavy Lasers are better than proto autocannons in almost every single way. I'll accept PACs on vees though

Well, even with 20 rounds of ammo, the PAC/8 comes out 1000kg lighter than a HLL.

I think that you should compare the PAC8 to the HML. The HALL does twice the damage at a greater range. Think about it

the HLL is going to require a butt load of extra HS though. Not sure how bad that adds up on a proto. (I know the PAC's are more of a flavor weapon, doesn't mean they damage you, just there are better alternatives.)
