Asks about Plasma Rifle use on our units because we have a fluffy, canon way to get them now, i.e. direct from the manufacturer, while the Wolves and Falcons use them and get them through I'm guessing the Fox's? and the conversation goes over to the merits of the Plasma Cannon... BT forum, never change please  ;D

Rifle has the 10 damage for 3 heat, a little less than 50% heat generated on target and shorter range and 2 extra Tonnes??
Cannon has a nice range but no damage, a nice range and lower tonnage

Now if you look at the Rifle as an IS version of the Cannon (yes i know it's the other way around but bear with) without the damage, the Rifle is a fitting IS copy stats wise, in that it fits how IS copies go, a little hotter, a little shorter range and less effective on a target.

If you take the Cannon as the Clan version of the Rifle it's better at the heat bit but, to make up that 10 damage at the rifles range for that 3 heat and 2 tonnes, is a hard thing, ER Meds match the range bands, do 7 damage but 5 heat and 1 tonne, so not bad ends up a tad warmer and a little less damage.

all in all, the Rifle is either a bit meh, or a kinda ok with an extra 10 point slap for 3 heat and 2 tonnes.

Also just noticed, CGL have the wrong Ton(ne)s in the charts or it needs an apostrophe (Ton's abbreviated Tonnes, because metric)

It’s a 3 ton difference between the cannon and rifle. 2er mediums and an extra HS leave you at +5 heat for +4 damage and +3/4 heat. Not a bad trade.

The extra 3 hexes mean a lot, better brackets, more opportunity to mess up the heat scales early (and really mess them up).

According to the MUL the Fedcom had the Thunderhawk, the Catapult C3, the Yellow Jacket, the Pilum and the Schiltron available, however only the Cat existed before 3059 (and the YJ only from 3067).

Among IS forces with a higher use of combines arms and almost no concerns about duels, a 'Mech that can't perform well solo against other 'Mechs can still be useful as a scout, vehicle/infantry/BA hunter, or just as one more un8t pouring fire into the main target.

It’s always surprised/disappointed me that more omnimech configurations (Clan or Spheroid) aren’t more specialized for different opponents.  Enemy is bringing up their armor support?  Break out the LB-X and plasma weapons.  Need AA cover?  Mount the HAGs.  Swarms of BA over the horizon?  Switch over to the area-effect artillery.  Etc.  There’s some MG-heavy anti-infantry configurations among the lighter omnis, but that’s kind of it.  Always seemed to miss one of the obvious operational advantages of having Swiss Army knife mechs.

Does the FedCom also have Arrow IV platforms? In the TRO 3055 in the lore for the Scarabus it states that the TAG unit was useless at first until they introduced a Arrov IV variant of the Thunderhawk. Are there any others?

I can certainly see the Mongoose being a baby Thug, though I feel the Flashman belongs in a different set.

Urbie > Flashman > Imp the egg-shape family!

Reworked art may be a little different, but how about a Sentinel?

Think of all the fun we could have with Plazers!!

It was hinted at a few times early on, but despite being contradicted in ilClan it could still potentially be "real" due to Stone either lying or having been brainwashed into believing what he told Alric.

The main piece of evidence supporting the statement that Stone and Arthur are not the same person is that they are drastically different in build.  Stone is both taller and broader, or at least was when he was younger.

Which is speculation that shows up in officially published material, not just fan posts of forums.

There are a few mechs that seem to have a "family" yet incomplete one!

Hermit Crab > Crab > Missing Link > King Crab

Missing Link > Rime Otter > Grizzly > Mastodon

Ion Sparrow > Hierofalcon > Missing Link > Jade Phoenix

Missing Link > Mad Cat III > Mad Cat > Mad Cat II (You had one job Savage Wolf!)

My OCD is killing me here! Come on Catalyst let us have the missing links! Let us complete the families! Accept no off-brand members! ;D

There are Anubis variants that would work as a light cousin of the Mad Cat family. And as the Anubis is more-or-less an upgraded Talos without SRMs, that could work, too. My honest first impression was the Talos art looked very much like a Mad Cat.
