(Answered) Infantry and Field Guns

Question:

When trying to increase the speed of infantry on deployment, is it possible to place the infantry in the cargo area of an APC and then pull the field gun as additional external cargo?  Forgive me if this has been answered already.

It does say that only mechanized infantry can use field guns and field artillery but can dedicated transports supplement these?  Can foot infantry if provided a heavier dedicated transport be able to manipulate and operate them?  If mechanized is the only ones able, I completely understand.

By strict game play rules, the Field Gun infantry cannot be separated from their field gun. The entire unit represents a tow vehicle (jeep, small truck, etc) and the towed field piece. Most APCs do not have tow hitches and would not have the right size hitch if they did.

Think of loading a truck and trailer into the back of a C-130. That's how it would work.

This is for strict game play, on the map sheet rules. For between battles, what works for your game is what you should do.

Aaaah, okay.   Thank you.   I wasn't sure to be honest.   That did straighten things out.

I forgot that motorized and mechanized infantry already have organic transport integrated in and don't need to have to specify the kind of trucks that are driving them around.

So, to transport an infantry unit + field gun would require having a single transport to have enough cargo (internal and external) to carry the whole set up?  The weight of the mechanized unit + the field gun?

So it isn't possible to split up a mechanized/motorized unit between light APCs and pull the field gun?  Kinda like how platoons had to be moved back using the old 3026 APCs?

No it is not. This is primarily a game balance and playability issue. It adds a lot of overhead to the game. Also, trailer hitches are a specific piece of equipment for combat units and very few canon combat vehicles units have hitches.

In universe the explanation is vehicle sizes. Field Guns are designed to be pulled by pickup sized vehicles. APCs are more the size of a Bradley IFV. It would be like trying to pull a U-Haul trailer with a Monster Truck.
