(Answered) Battle Value of the Void-Signature System
« on: 29 August 2015, 18:00:10 »
In Tactical Operations page 382, for the Void-Signature System, it states "When calculating the BV of a unit equipped with a Void-Signature System, include the maximum +3 to-hit modifier when calculating the Defensive Factor,..."

Now, I noticed that +3 is only when the unit doesn't move at all. Looking at SSW and MML, they both calculate the max speed bonus, then add the +3 to this. So a unit that moves 3/5 has a defensive speed factor of 1.50 in those programs. Is this truly how the BV is suppose to be calculated for this? It doesn't seem right to add the +3 to the max speed bonus since you can either move the max speed, or stand still, but not both.

So, does the BV for the Void-Signature System work as above, or should it really be to use the +3 OR the max speed bonus, whichever is greater?

Chameleon Light Polarization Shield (p. 381)
Delete "but do not include the 6 points of heat generated by the system in all heat efficiency calculations."

Null-Signature System (p. 382)
Delete "but do not include the 10 points of heat generated by the system in all heat efficiency calculations."

Void-Signature System (p. 382)
When calculating the BV of a unit equipped with a Void-Signature System, include the maximum +3 to-hit modifier when calculating the Defensive Factor, but do not include the 10 points of heat generated by this system in all heat efficiency calculations.
Change to:
When calculating the Defensive Factor of a unit equipped with a Void-Signature System, use either the unit's normal target modifier or the maximum +3 to-hit modifier provided by the System, whichever is higher. In the case of a tie, apply a +1 to-hit modifier from the System in addition to the unit's normal target modifier.

Thanks for the clarification as that makes much more sense now!

What was the reasoning for no longer ignoring the heat for heat calculations? I always thought it seemed weird anyways that you get the benefit of the additional modifier, but not the negative of extra heat. Was that the driving force behind the change?

I realized as I was going over the wording for your answer that we still had heat in there, and since we'd eliminated it as a factor for Stealth Armour, it only made sense to do the same for anything else along those lines, both for consistency and because, really, the heat does matter, so ignoring it is silly.
