(Answered) Actuator Enhancement Systems and flak bonus
« on: 04 September 2020, 03:03:27 »
(This question pertains to rules detailed in the BattleMech Manual (BMM); apologies if this in in the wrong sub-forum.)

My overall question is this:

Do weapons making a Flak attack gain a -1 Targeting Number bonus from being mounted in the same arm as an Actuator Enhancement System?

Here is the question in greater detail, with rules references:

1)   Page 97 of BMM states that the flak modifier is cumulative with all other modifiers provided by the weapon or its ammunition unless specified otherwise.
2)   Page 114 of BMM states that a weapon is making a Flak attack, it does not benefit from the -1 Target Number bonus granted by a Targeting Computer.
3)   Page 118 of BMM states that weapons mounted in the same arm as an Actuator Enhancement System receive a -1 Target Number modifier.
4)   In 3), there is no mention of the Flak bonus, so given 1), an AES system should provide its bonus to a Flak attack. However, there is the discrepancy that Targeting Computers do not enhance Flak attacks, but AES does.
5)   Therefore, grateful if you could confirm that a weapon making a Flak attack, that is mounted in the same arm as an AES, does receive the extra -1 to its Targeting Number due to the AES.

Thank you in advance!
