(Answered) Thunderbolts and OS? Oh, and Narc too
« on: 20 August 2020, 00:12:35 »
TacOps seems a little clear on whether or not Thunderbolts can be OS and iOS. TechManual doesn't mention them of course. TacOps doesn't seem to say one way or another, though Thunderbolts are in the missile section.

BMM doesn't say yes or no in the Thunderbolt section, though it does seem to spell out what can use One-Shots in the iOS/OS section, and Thunderbolts aren't mentioned.

However, Narcs also aren't mentioned as being able to be OS in the BMM as far as I can tell, which is a departure from previous rules as well.

And if Narcs can be OS, it seems to stand to reason that the Thunderbolt can't too.

So can Narc and Thunderbolts be OS/iOS?

Yeah, thought about that I was going to sleep. "Did I remember to include those?"

TM 242 (The charts in the back) has a cross next to the One-Shot entry which leads to a footnote saying "May apply to LRM, MRM, SRM, Streak SRM, Narc and iNarc. Adds 0.5 ton to weapon weight and is considered part of the weapon."

That's repeated on the next page for Clan Weapons.

TacOps "Advanced Units and Equipment" book page 220-221 doesn't have a little footnote for the i-OS launcher, and the construction rules on page 138 just says to subtract half a ton from the regular launcher and doesn't indicate what it can be used on. Nor do the rules on page 139. Those just say that the launchers work just like standard launchers but only receive one volley, which can be of any ammo type the launcher can use.

Page 158 states for Thunderbolts "May be mounted on any available unit type in accordance with the units standard construction rules."
Game rules on 159 state ""Follow all the standard rules for LRMs in combat..." and "Anti-Missile systems may engage an incoming Thunderbolt missile, using the standard rules for AMS versus a single missile weapon."

Corrected Third printing of the BMM on 103 for both the iOS and OS weapons states "any size of MML, MRM, SRM, SRT, LRM, LRT, NLRM, NLRT launcher, and use the same statistics as the launcher, except they are also OS weapons."

So TM specifically allows for Narc launchers to be OS. (TM 242)
BMM doesn't. (BMM 103)

Thunderbolts aren't mentioned one way or another (TO 158), but they're considered missile weapons, and can be shot down by AMS, just like Narc.

So if Narc can be OS, then there's really no reason that Thunderbolts can't be as well?

Page 153 of RS 3055Uu has the Linebacker F configuration, which has a i-OS Narc system, so that presumably answers the question as to whether or not Narc can be a One Shot.

Which means that the BMM probably needs a tad bit of errata to indicate that in the OS section.

Which leaves the Thunderbolt.

Which is a missile. And can be defeated like a missile with AMS.

The lack of Narc mention in the BMM is an oversight.

We'll be adding OS capability to Thunderbolts via errata.
