During the quarantine I’ve been doing a lot of map and counter printing. Back in the day I owned a copy of Heavy Metal Pro and just found Heavy Metal Map exists. Has anyone used this? Is it worth the $37?
-
i have been using it since it came out.. is very well done & worth the price.. even if its outdated software.. maybe if more people bought it.. we might get the owner back into starting to update it again..

Your money would be better spent getting Campaign Cartographer (https://www.profantasy.com/)
Has the added ability if you game at home, you can use it to check LoS issues :D

Other examples, I have done in CAMPAIGN CARTOGRAPHER

Something else I was working on, and should continue:

I’ve been looking at campaign cartographer for years but never took the plunge. To be honest though, I’ve looked at it more for D&D. Are there many options for buildings? I would give my kidney for a union class dropship like from the hexpack.

Nice work btw

What exactly do you mean for buildings?

Also, if you plan for D&D then all the more reason for CC2+. With the addons you can make unbelievable city maps, overland maps etc. Also with CC2+ you can make any png image into a map symbol file etc.

Buildings like those created by Whitar or in the old Citytech Boxset. I see some in HM Maps. I also see some remade the buildings from Mechcommander 2. Those really bring back some good memories. But... if those types of things are available in CC, the other features of CC make it by far the better value. I guess I should go check out the CC site. Haven’t been there in awhile.
Does anyone know of a way to get your hands on copies of the old Hexpacks?

E-Bay has all three, but the prices are 200% - 400% of MSRP.

What exactly should I get purchasing with Campaign Cartographer?

At the lvery least, you would need the Base Program. From there, the rest are like side dishes, and more geared towards certain scales.
I.E. the base program will do everything, the rest simply give more tools to aid in their respective areas.

Which Add-Ons do you use (and which palettes, if you don't mind) for the planetary maps?
-
Tagging this in part for later as NK and I were talking about the PA maps. I once made a really good one in Photoshop/Illustrator but the original files disappeared:

I've been practicing with CC+ and it is, indeed, powerful.

I have almost all the add-ons. But if you are looking to HUST make planetary Assault Maps, and battlemaps for miniature play you will need:
Main Program (CC3+)
Fractal Terrain
As to palettes, thats a harder nut to crack, as it all comes down to personal taste. I use a lot of texture fills when I make battlemaps.

Lot of Free textures there.
