Mech Hanger 2.0
« on: 29 October 2020, 10:32:48 »
I've been working on an updated version of the Mech Hanger.

The original Mech Hanger kit has more than 50 pieces, the new kit combines pieces making the molds more complex but, if successful, the casting will take far less time to produce

Currently my printer is on the blink, so until the replacement part arrives from China I will have to wait to test my new designs.

So the walls are getting there, still have some patching to do before they're ready. The Floor prints didn't work... :-\

The floor should look more like this...

It'll get there eventually, I'm experimenting with the floor prints to see if I can get more detail.

That's pretty cool !

Keep it up .

One of my greatest regrets over the years of playing this game was not buying
the Old Crow Mech bay that is no longer available .

I had so many ideas for scenarios with these but missed out .
When time and money allow I'll be looking for something to fill that void .

Old Crow is still in business. You just need to email him and he can make whatever you want.  He does some great work!

The only link I can find is from a site that hasn't been updated since 2012.
Other links on that site have disappeared .
Previous attempts at contact have not been successful .

If you have another link I'd be grateful if you could post it, and if you don't want to
post it I'd be happy if you could message me with it .
( As in if there is an auction site link that this site won't allow to be listed )
Thanks .
Your work is more detailed but there is something to be said for nostalgia .
I still have a pile of the buildings from Ground zero Games just because
they were in ( IIRC) the Compendium .
Have you ever considered making a mech bay with 4 stations  ?
3025 players seem to base there games more on lances then players
of later eras .
Us old schoolers can be weird that way !
Please continue with your projects. They are excellent .

So, if you Google 'Old Crow Models' it'll pull up his homepage, on that page is an email address. He responds to it and will make whatever you want (at least this was true a few months ago which was the last time we were in touch.)

He entered into an agreement some years back with a US reseller, I did the casting for that reseller. Unfortunately that arrangement didn't work out long term... :(

Wall mold done!

I'll let it cure for a few more days before trying a test casting.

More suited for Awesome, than Timber Wolf. :) Looks great. It's so hard to scratch build concrete, industrial terrain, so printing is really the only way.

Yes, I've been having all of my masters printed for 15+ years or so, its great to be able to print them myself now (and a fraction of the cost!) I'm able to get new models out faster and experiment with different types of models and mold design having my own printer.

Two Steps Forward, One Step Back...

So I thought I had the molds for both the walls and the floors done. Over the weekend I made the first castings only to discover that I'd goofed.

I made the floor sections to fit into the wall sections. The idea being that this would give a sort of guide for the individual pieces and make it easier to assemble. Unfortunately, I made the tolerances too tight and they don't fit together without some X-Acto knife work.  It's not a ton, but that coupled with a couple of the details looking a bit silly, it's not gonna work.

Thanks for the info . In a few weeks once we've figured a few  things out I think I'll
email him .  I might know who your reseller was .  They may also be the reason
why nobody in the US is making the old sci-fi buildings from Ground Zero Games .
( The ones in the back of the old Compendium IIRC )
I still have a huge batch of those buildings along with the Geo-Hex Battlescape terrain
that was popular at the time . I seem to remember doing a LOT more grinding/dremeling
on those buildings then you had to on your recent try .
Keep trying .The fit might not fit  perfect without work but they still look great !

Yeah, the floor molds are complete:

I've got a few more details to get finished and then I'll put one together.  I'll want to get some extra molds done before they go up for sale.
