You have respected the original weaponry, you could mostly upgrade the lasers to ER in the Withworth it's done so I don't see why not

I went with standards to reduce the heat load.

So, I'm thinking a Marian lance of a Marauder II (I know they have a variant), Marauder, Centurion, and a Commando. Think it'll work?

Welcome Civitas

If it works, even though you would need one more, the MHAF are made up of 5 mechs/tanks

So now that it looks like the Legions are upgrading to into and even standard tech, I'm guessing a lot of the primitive machines are going to get handed off to militias, local mercs, and other third-tier forces. I should start thinking about putting together the household guard for a wealthy patrician or something.

That is a neat idea.

An Indie Cent to lead some Militia quality ground troops and perhaps a light tank.  Might try a szenario of four nobles fighting over a stash of <something> with my fam.

I don't have any tanks and infantry yet, but that'll come in time. For now, I just got mechs.

And I wanted an OpFor for my Niops Association Militia.

It would be something nice to develop, Planetary Militias, Troops of Patrician Houses, Wandering Gladiators etc etc

I wonder if the Marians continue the Roman practice of hitting mercenaries to directly fill gaps in the Legions. I'm not talking about using a merc unit to garrison Planet Y so the Legions can be elsewhere, but more like Legion A has few/no scouting units, so mercenaries are hired to fight directly alongside regular troops in that role.

It would make sense to do this with newer or less reputable mercs, because then you have regular troops right there to keep an eye on them. And game-wise, it would allow a Marian player to mix regular IS-style lances in with Marian centuries, or use units not normally available to a Hegemony player.

Like how after Carthage a lot of the Roman auxiliaries were African horsemen for scouting duties?

I don't know if that's exactly it, but according to various publications, the Dragonslayers are the guys who do the dirty tasks of the Ordo Vigilis.
The Winfields gradually over time fulfill garrison tasks for decades in the skinny south of the Hegemony
The Headhunters were a small unit that served as a garrison and little else.
Briefly there was another unit that did Cadre for a while

But what you say would be interesting, if the Legio had small units of Mercs or Privatters assigned to serve as support

Most likely.  The Marians lost an entire Legion to the Lothian League, and their economy is large enough to support hiring specialist and garrison merc units to help fill the holes in their army.  Groups of mercs based on old Roman support groups like the slingers of the Balearic Isles or the skirmisher cavalry of Numidia would make for some great neo Roman themed units

Done!

To stick to the Roman theme, I added a Cataphract.

(Yeah I know it's Persian, but the Romans use them too!)

If it was adopted by the Roman Empire what do we humble Marian warriors have to say? Come with Dad
Hopefully at some point we can make a mech called Falcata

Just checked the MUL- we not only got the WTH-2H but also the Vulcan and the LBX Pike from that book.  Two nice additions, the Vulcan is one good looking walking warcrime.

I begin to wonder if when they say on a vehicle or mech that it is widely distributed or sold by anyone, we are expressly left out

Doubtful.  We have a lot of units on the general IS list, ranging from the Archer 4M2 to the Cerberus. It looks like we bought a lot from companies in Kurita, Steiner, Marik and Periphery space, and also from independent megacombines such as Starcorps.

If I don't say no, but I saw that pattern in the Clan tanks category, it had broken with the Galleon C but it has returned to how it was previously, the Ontos C has reached the MoC and Taurus, and much simpler things like the LRM Carrier, the SRM C or the Pike C that said they were open to selling to whoever passed with Tickets, none of these options were given
The subject is strange

Perhaps by giving the best equipment to a faction like the MoC makes it easier to justify their ability to drive on Alphard while the Legions have to make do with standard or lesser equipment

Maybe yes, maybe not, I think it's more of a subjective way of assigning teams, be careful because some have been changed after their first assignment, I suppose that due to changes of opinion regarding the assignment, I personally estimate that the list definitive post Rec Guides will be a month or two after they finish going out.
The assignment of the post-publication teams is the thick line of the work, and the post is the thin line

Now that I think about it in this last outing, there should necessarily be some mention of the Addhara Factory in the Hegemony when the CPP Carrier comes out, so we will get information about what the hell the ATC makes and manufactures there and who knows what mechs they make there.

It's nice if we get some Clantech, but I'm fine with using non-Clantech too. They still work and cost less BV too.

Agreed. The Addhara factory is so wrapped up in mystery.
