How was the SLDF funded after Amaris took power?
« on: 04 August 2022, 04:34:17 »
Kerensky's drive to liberate Terra took years. How was the SLDF funded during this time? Where did the money come from? Do we know?

The SLDF took control of the RWR so they could draw on them. They also were not above press-ganging people into service as we saw with the Exodus fleet.

The Liberation of Terra Vol I, speaks to this a little.  After taking the Rim Worlds republic, Kerensky put General DeChaviler in charge of using the Rim Worlds industry that was already producing material for war, and used that to rebuild and rearm the SLDF.  About this same time, large numbers of house troops started to defect to the SLDF, brining mechs, tanks, dropships, and even two warships (some with house lord encouragement and some without, even though publicly they all disavowed any support).

The Star League State Administration offices also tried to keep up tax collection, and while not very successful did keep some money coming in for the SLDF and other services.  Also the SLDF was able to trade technology secrets for parts and funding, as well as "offering lucrative future contract pricing".   When that was not enough, the SLDF stripped every base they had and sold anything not needed for the war effort, at greatly reduced pricing.

They also would "liberate" house supply depos to "collect back taxes".  Some of these depos left for the SLDF, but had to be "raided" so the house lord did not not appear to be given support, and some were actually raided.

According to the Source book "Liberation of Terra after the occupation of the Hegemony by amaris and the then greeting which followed almost a month later the Star LEague Admins in the member states decided to rather support Kerensky instead of Amaris. Which means tax money that was owed to the Star League was diverted to the "rebellious" SLDF. While some states (the Combine and Free worlds League) did not collect the taxes owed to the Star League the others did especially the Federated Suns. Allegedly after all was said and done Kerensky had access to roughly 10% of the entire Star League budget. The supplies and upgrades he needed were then payed with either said money or war bonds and technology the Hegemony had guarded for decades. And of course once the SLDF started conquering Hegemony planets Kerensky brought in teams of engineers to bring damaged factories / mines back online to supply his troops

Establishing the Ruins of Gabriel at this time is a major feat given the circumstances when you think about it. The Rim Worlds, a few liberated worlds, and friendly Houses (Davion, Steiner, Liao) could all add to the support of the SLDF at this time.

Short version, they werent.

Long version, they turned towards the RWR, took it over in a record amount of time, and then, once they had, they drew from the RWR what they needed and started their drive to Terra

Many factions and companies also offered a line of credit thinking if Kerensky won they would get “a piece of the pie”.
