For comparison, I didn't like Sun Yzu as a person but I can admit he was a great leader.

She literally gets involved because her friend dies, and obstructs the war until that takes place, hindering any kind of true advances that could have been made to take New Olympia or stop the industrial engine that is Thermopolis.

Makeda Kaye was it? Or something like that. I can't remember this person's name even. But it cemented my disdain for Nikol. She's a terrible leader.

She's not a terrible character, which I always stress. But I don't find that endearing, I find that to be the embodiment of irresponsibility.

That's a good point and also what most forget: this is still the age of few HPG's. You can do recon raids but it will take time for that information to reach your central command. And while the silence from Terra grows with each passing month that also doesn't see an increase in Jumpship traffic it is prudent to step carefully at first. Of course simply going to full out war because a friend dies...

I don't want to post the whole thing just because people should read the book, but it ends with this:

“At once, Captain-General.” Arnold clicked his heels and turned to leave but paused at the door. “And what of the Sea Fox peace?” Nikol sat back down. She opened a small crack in the iron cabinet in which she kept her emotions, and let out a tiny sliver of the anguish she felt about her friend’s death. “The Sea Foxes did not save Makeda Kay,” was all she said.

agreed. there's no feel of whom this person is. and why she's valueable to Nikol, this is the ultimate case of "telling rather then showing" a novel could clear this up easily eneugh but for now... there's no understanding of whom this person is and why Nikol cares is this a childhood friend? or someone she met a month ago at a friends BBQ?

I suppose Nikol made a lot of friends in the Eagle's Talons independent battalion.

Of course, they were all killed by Republic of the Sphere Ghost Knights. Who went on to blame a planetary genocide on them before their corpses stopped burning, much less cooled. I've been waiting for that one to blow up. It sort of has already, though.

I think I need to start a new FWLM unit. Can anyone name a regiment that fits these questions?

1: Uses purple in the paint scheme. Because all the time I've been a Marik player, it's been Atrean Dragoons or Regulan Hussars. Time for some actual purple.
2: Does NOT use white. Because even my masochism has limits.
3: Isn't the Marik Militia. Because I'm still contrary by nature.
4: Existed in the Succession Wars up through the IlClan eras. Because that allows for maximum variety of units.

Think the Protectorate Guard is about it. But seriously, reconsider white with Citadel's Soulblight Grey Shade and Corax White Base. See my ComStar guys.

Basecoat white, shade, 2 layers drybrush white, edge with white primer if you want. Then go purple. A Level III was a 3-4 weekend job. Will be doing 15th Arcturan, and would consider a white & purple job in future.

How about going for a Border Protectorate regiment? They use powder blue and purple. You could put a stronger emphasis on the purple?

The number of units that use white as a base color will be the end of me. It's why I'm refusing to use the 'correct' paint scheme for the handful of Tamarind Regulars I've painted. I'll stick to the modified Marik Militia colors, they work for me.

Silver Hawk Irregulars, those that hail from Callison and Marcus, use a half-purple/half-silver scheme (left/right split). They exist from the 3SW (2966) through 3081...but then were reformed 3135. So they should just squeeze into contention by a nose.

They have Martha Zuritas from the 4SW through Guerrero, and access to many other paint schemes. Besides, purple and silver is a pretty snazzy look. The Gryphons, under Zuritas, acquitted themselves well against Snord's Irregulars (in 3029) and were a key reason for the LCAF's faltering offensive into the Combine during 3039 (see Field Manual: Free Worlds League, FASA 1699, pp. 88-90 and Rhonda's Irregulars, FASA 1643, pp. 8, 40-41).

Hmm...Zurita's Company is easy enough to assemble from models on hand. I might take a stab at the unit myself. Might be worth a thought for you, Wierdo.

The Steel Guard was rebuild by the estranged son of the former commander. When his mother died he inherited her wealth and he decided to rebuild the Guard in "it's true image" not the traitors that sided with the Blakists.
And I suppose you don't look a gifted horse in the mouth when everyone is trying to rebuild it's militaries

I see them going to approximately one hex from the enemy and pulling the ripcord. What happens after that isn't really my concern.

Sad panda. One of the funniest-looking designs, but also one of my favorite beefy scouts to stiffen lighter Lances, and a favorite Marik back-watcher and BA-discourager in heavier Lances. I know the Bloodhound fleet is probably still healthy, but stinks hearing they're a finite number now and moving forward (until something changes).
