Title: Cluster attacks vs Mechanised Infantry
Post by: strategoslevel3 on 08 August 2021, 03:39:41
Just need some help with checking my Combat Math!

LBX 10 with cluster hits a Mechanised Hover Platoon in Clear Terrain

Base damage (All munitions court as hitting)
Ballistic Base Damage/5 +1
10/5+1 = 3

X2 for Cluster vs CI Mechanized (TW pg 215)

X2 for CI in Clear Terrain (TW of 216)

X2 for being CI Mechanized (TW pg 217)

Hover Mechanised can’t enter Woods so unless in a building or rough they are in clear terrain.

So an LB10X vs CI Mechanized Hover in Clear terrain would do 3x2x2x2 = 24

Vs CI foot in clear terrain it would be  6

Vs CI foot in woods/rough it would be 3

Vs CI foot in a medium building it would do 2

You're a bit off. Looking at the corrected 6th printing of Total War:

Page 216, Cluster(Ballistic) = Damage/10+1, so the base damage is 2.

(Absolutely nothing at all gets Damage/5+1, I'm really wondering where that came from.)

Page 215, Non-conventional infantry attacks vs mechinf get doubled, so 2*2=4.

Back to page 216, attacks against conventional infantry in clear hexes is doubled, so now we're at 4*2=8.

The notation on page 217 about doubling damage to mechinf is simply restating the earlier part on page 215, so nothing happens.

That's it, the end total is 8 damage. That's still a fair chunk so you're advised to keep mechinf away from cluster guns(and especially big missile racks) if appreciate cover isn't available, but it's hardly a case of one hit wiping out the whole platoon.

Does this mean an LB2x does the same damage as an LB10x, due to damage/10 rounding to 1 in both cases?  Mind, im not opposed to light ACs being effective at hurting infantry, just checking.

That is correct.
