How do you calculate movement points (and maximum carrying capacity) of a support vehicle pulling trailers AND carrying external cargo? Do you add weighs of trailers and external cargo together and then use rules in Tractors section on p. 205 or Cargo Carriers section on p. 261, or do you reduce tractor's speed based on trailer's weigh as described on p. 205 first and then reduce it AGAIN based on external cargo weigh as described on p. 261 (and if this is the case, is that latter reduction and maximum mass of external cargo based on relation of external cargo's mass to tractor's mass or to combined mass of tractor and trailers)?

The main reason I'm asking this question is that, I've just posted an errata suggestion about page reference in TM regarding determining MPs of a SV tractor pulling trailers which is related to this problem, and depending on answers I get here I may need to change that suggestion and/or add a new errata item in the TW errata thread. Here is a link to the TM errata in question: https://bg.battletech.com/forums/errata/techmanual-9-january-2014-(v3-02)/msg1726993/#msg1726993

Sorry for accidentally editing the above post right after the thread got its "research" tag. I haven't seen the tag before confirming my edits. If it helps, I haven't posted any substantial changes to the question itself (other than adding a note about maximum carrying capacity to the first sentence). I was just smoothing my wording a bit.

No worries: no one had tackled it yet.

Yes.

Tractor's mass.

Thank you. Should I assume that the issue of vehicles pulling trailers and carrying external cargo at the same time is niche enough that it doesn't need to be explained in the official rules, or do we need to address it somewhere (most likely on p. 261TW)? Also, do combat vehicles use only tractor's mass or mass of the entire vehicles set to determine its external cargo capacity? Remember that unlike support vehicles combat vehicles do not use rules on p. 205TW to determine their movement points, but instead get their cruise MP by dividing primary tractor's engine rating by combined mass of all tractors and trailers in the set (see p. 101TM).
