Email Notifications
« on: 04 October 2020, 22:35:07 »
Not sure if it's just me or something else but I've noticed I'm not getting any notification emails for threads I've marked for notify. I have double checked my email address and set it to instant. Is there a setting I'm missing or is there something server side not working?

I've temporarily disabled email notifications. They will come back as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

Look, dude, when you are a real mechwarrior you don't need to get all dressed up in cooling suits and cool helmets to work on your mech. You just strip down to your 1980s panties and crop top vest and start wrenchin' it.

Well, good to know it's not me. Do what you gotta do. I'm sure these forums produce a lot of emails that have to be managed carefully.

Has there been any update on this? Would love to start getting notifications.

Would also love to know if there is anything I could do to help get them turned back on.

Yep, noted that today on my end.

I have the Fan Funding thread tagged to notify me whenever they start a new thread and I have missed the last two.
Epitaph on an Army of Mercenaries

These, in the day when heaven was falling,      Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
The hour when earth's foundations fled,         They stood, and earth's foundations stay;
Followed their mercenary calling,               What God abandoned, these defended,
And took their wages, and are dead.             And saved the sum of things for pay.

Any update on getting the notifications set back up for those of us who aren't getting any?

Almost 10 months. Has there been any progress on re-enabling notifications?

Our of curiosity, has this even been looked at in the last 11 months?

If running through Gmail, that is part of the problem as they probably think the email is spam. If running through another service, it can all be marked as transactional with all the DNS settings set correctly and should run through fine. Just need a service that can handle it. SES is an option and so is SendGrid. Yes they cost money but with how much traffic this site gets, it'll still probably be less than $20/mo.

I've been getting notifications for a while. And on Gmail. They still get the "are you sure this is right" header warning added by Gmail, but they're coming through.
"That's Lieutenant Faceplant to you, Corporal!"

Things that I have learnt through clicking too fast on 'Move Done' on MegaMek: Double-check the CF of the building before jumping onto it, check artillery arrival times before standing in the neighbouring hex, and don't run across your own minefield.

"Hmm, I wonder if I can turn this into a MM map."

I haven't gotten any since last year so there is still an issue somewhere.

If the email service used is GMail then it is probably denying sending of emails due to amount. The number of emails this board sends should be sent through a 3rd party as a traditional SMTP service will treat most as spam and discard it.

Just found out where all my emails went. Google was marking each and everyone as spam and not having them show up in my client.

Should look at using a service and enable the DKIM settings (and other security settings) to prevent that.

I had to log into Gmail directly vs using Mail, go to spam and saw them all. Went through settings and turned off "personalization" which disabled 1/4 of the features in Gmail so I could disable spam filtering.
