Heroscape swamp idea - tile update on1/9
« on: 06 January 2012, 22:43:28 »
I got to wondering what you could do with pliers and toothpicks . . .

Crushed, torn, soaked in a gray 50/50 paint/water, and 'planted' in a swamp.  Thought I'd share the result.  BTW, you can drill holes for a toothpick with a 5/64" bit.

The final result isn't bad.  I am thinking of replacing my wire 'dead' trees with toothpick 'dead' trees.

It's only game terrain and meant for game use.  I want it to look good, but not diorama perfect.  Any thoughts, comments, etc?

As always, please steal any ideas you deem useful.

Happy hunting,
John Blackwell

damned nice work, but just because of wear and tear I would keep the wire trunks and just use the "logs" for deadfall or for rough terrain

That's a great idea.  I have used aquarium gravel and kitty litter for 'rocky' rough terrain like this . . .

I'm thinking I can create log-jam tiles for rough terrain too . . .

hmmm . . .

I really like that effect.  I would leave both types of tree in the swamp for variety.  I also agree it would make great rough terrain.  Thanks for sharing.

It's realistic enough to  make me think of this:

Thanks. Now I'm all depressed.  :P

. . . or for rough terrain

What a great idea . . . here's what I came up with.

A sequence of shots from tile to finished.  Please forgive my impatience with not waiting for everything to dry before posting.

The poor Catapult. It would've made an awesome Osprey. :'(

Any chance of a how-to on those swamp hexes? That still water looks snazzy.

@ Scatcat - it was a 'leftover' mech from the regiment.  I bought it back in '98 and never did anything with it - until now.  It will now mark  the sites of trashed mechs in all future engagements.

Referencing the water: the following should link you to my original swamp thread.  I completed it sometime back and just recently went back and added the toothpick 'deadwood' which led to the log-jam rough terrain tiles.

@ ApokalypseTest - thanks.  The fire is fixed.  I got some pointers from Spaceman Spiff, and this is my (far inferior) work.  It's also photographed in Reply #13:
