Blank Alpha Strike Cards?
« on: 10 July 2014, 01:12:16 »
As I've mentioned several times in various threads, I run a lot of customized units (the overwhelming majority of my units, in fact).  I've been poking around, and don't see anywhere to get any sort of blank card in the new MUL format.

Granted, I know that a LOT of work has gone into making the cards out there.  So I have absolutely no qualms about paying for that hard work.  But I don't see anywhere to purchase blank cards in the MUL format, color or black & white.  Is that something that's in the works, but not available yet?

I know I theoretically could save an image of the B&W MUL cards for the base unit and change the numbers . . . but I am terrible at things like that.  Besides, I'd much rather purchase nice cards, or a PDF template to use(this would be much preferred), than attempt to butcher some monstrosity of my own . . . especially since those purchased card-blanks or PDF-templates would probably be high quality color cards.

Thank you to any and all for reading and for any assistance provided.

Do you have a pdf copy of Alpha Strike?. At the back in the beginning of the tables section is a page with 8 blank cards, they are the original format not the newest on the MUL but should suffice for your needs.

I've already got that . . . kind of.  To save the paper I scanned in the copies from my hardback book (I do not have the PDF) and have been filling them in.  They're not pretty, but they work.  So I can create cards of the original format.  I was just hoping for something in the new format . . . because they're just flat out awesome.

While not precisely what you are asking for, I did design some QuickStrike cards using the BattleForce record sheet as a base.

I have everything from base vehicles to space stations in there and they work just as well for Alpha Strike as they do for QuickStrike.

They don't look as cool as the new MULs though.  ;)

It's not looks as much as it is functionality.  I appreciate your offer, and your cards are really nice.  However, I was looking for cards that already have the TMM, critical values, etc. already on the card, as per the new MUL.  I can create cards in the "old" Alpha Strike format.

Will likely (not definitely) have revised blank cards in the Alpha Strike reprint.

Oooooo . . . I already have been prodding my local game shop to keep an eye out for the printed AS Companion release so I can snag a copy, and I nagged him for MONTHS to get him to finally grab some alpha strike handbooks.  Now I need to start keeping an eye out for reprints and hope those cards make it in there.

If I may inquire, but for folks like myself who purchased the 1rst edition, and not a pdf, etc, how do we get the new version, because I know someone else will ask, and maybe be all gruff about it.

Holy Schmigidee that is cool. I only have two questions; What is the "E" box for where the attack ratings are? and would it be possible to have a URL or a drop down box with all the existing units images available? Then if I have a custom Centurion I can just choose the Centurion picture and be good to go.

E is extreme range for ASF. I think.

For pictures, go to the unit you want and right click on the image. Copy the picture URL.

I can tell you there are a lot of images associated with the MUL.

Wow...this is seriously awesome.  :)

One question.

Is TMM right?

I thought 3=1, 5=2, 7=3, 10=4 and such.

I'm getting TMM1 at 5MV and TMM2 at 10MV

Hey Sereglach, give this a try http://masterunitlist.info/Tools/CardGenerator

You, good sir, are my hero!  This tool is frigging amazing and whomever created it has my gratitude!  Thank you so very much!

It has now been locked into my favorites and will see MUCH use from me in the future!  Thank you again!

Question, though:  I can't put in PV's higher than 30 (Example, my custom Atlas has a current PV of 56 on the old Beta, since I don't have the companion, yet).  Is that part of the new PV, or is 30 the max of the old PV?

You are welcome!  I saw your question and realized I could put one together on the MUL site with just a little effort since all the card generation code was already written.

I'm not sure why I set 30 as a max...updating that now to 99 so you can enter what works for you.

E is Extreme range for Aerospace fighters.  If you enter a Type of AF you will see the Aerospace card layout.  PM will get you the Protomech layout, and BA will get you the Battle Armor layout as they are all slightly different from the standard one.

And yes Medron, NeonKnight was right that this is inches rather then hexes and the table in Alpha Strike pg 169 has 5-8" getting +1 and so on (threw me at first too).

I'm thinking that the best use for this is going to  be when I use proxies or "This banshee fig for that banshee variant" switch outs.

Post the pic of the model up in Google photos, use the URL for the image and fill in the stats. Viola, both my opponent and I have zero confusion about what is what on the field.

So this is already seriously awesome, however, is there any chance that it might be possible to have the text in the SA box have the option to change the font color. It would be neat to have offensive SAs as red, defensive as green, etc. Just a thought.

That would be a great idea for color cards, but I believe that since the MUL cards are free it's been stated that they will only come in black and white.  Color is being reserved for purchasable products (which is completely understandable to me).

. . . .

Here:  http://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php/topic,40196.0.html . . . looked it up to make sure I wasn't insane and potentially spreading a rumor.

the issue with coloring the cards is color blind people.

Of course if one really, really reaaaaaaaaally wants color text, they could leave that part blank, and do it post production in Photoshop or even MS Paint.
