Alpha Strike unit cards?
« on: 22 September 2014, 16:50:23 »
I've just gotten my dead-tree version of Alpha Strike!!  O0  For some reason, I can't be bothered to read a PDF but a physical item is much more engaging and I find myself reading it when I can.

Now I've not touched BT in ages so I'm very rusty.  As far as I can tell, Alpha Strike is a more-streamlined Quick Strike from the Strategic Ops book, right?  But are the two systems interchangeable?    On the Downloads page of this site, there is a Quick Strike mech cards PDF that I was hoping to print out and use in my up-coming Alpha Strike games.... actually, I thought they were Alpha Strike until I noticed it said QUICK Strike.  So, can I use these cards anyway on Alpha Strike?

Are there any official unit cards available for sale?  Or maybe PDF so I can print loads on thick paper and use to my heart's content?  I noticed in one of the stickys that there are Alpha Strike stats for most of the intro box mech units and variants, but they are all.... separate.  Is there a PDF of all of these units so I can just print it out?

I do apologize if I sound lazy, but RL is hitting me very hard right now so my gaming time is limited (so many games, so little time!!) so any help would be immensely appreciated.  Thanks!

You can find AS cards here
http://www.masterunitlist.info/Unit/Filter
Just type in the name of the mech/unit and you'll get a list of all the different variants . Juts click on the one you want and scroll down . you'll need to save the image manually since there is currently no download option and I don;t even know if thats in the works.

The Quick Strike Card PDFs are all out of date.
Alpha Strike is Quick Strike updated and renamed (to avoid confusion with the Quick Start products).
The Master Unit List (www.masterunitlist.info) has cards you can print.  You can search for units, click the +Force button on each, and then go to the Force page to print them all out at once.  Wow, just checked while writing these directions and Skyhigh and done some more work on making the Force lists rock :).

There is a drivethrurpg option for print on demand that had the Alpha Strike cards that were released at Gencon LAST year (2013).  I don't think that has been updated yet, more changes were made with the release of the Alpha Strike Companion.  These packs (90? cards, all packs are exactly the same, it's not random or part of a larger series) were available for sale at Gencon.

As noted, the QuickStrike cards are all out of date.

They are still playable, mostly, under Alpha Strike rules.  A few shifts must be made, but overall good.

Basically, if you have them you can continue to use them.

The very free Alpha Strike cards on the MUL are a better option though as they are designed for Alpha Strike rather than QuickStrike.  There are enough differences in the two rule systems that the differences in the cards are noticeable.  :)

Thanks for the quick replies and clarifying that QS and AS are not 100% compatible.  At least I now know what to get.  Time to crack open Photoshop again.  I'm surprised nobody's done a printable sheet yet --- how do people go about playing this?

I think, depending on the size of the cards, I could print them out on cardstock, cut them, and sleeve them like trading card games..... or maybe not, depends on how things turn out.

They print out very nicely at playing card size.

I personally prefer to print them a bit smaller than that, allowing me to print out a record sheet of up to 15 units on a single piece of paper. Copy the image into a word document, repeat for all the cards you want, and then resize as needed.

Yeah, seems like at their default size, I can do 8 mechs per sheet.... however, a few of the gents I play with would struggle with the smaller text.

They also print nicely at a larger size as well.

The nice thing about not having them as pdf is that you can build what you want with minimal effort.

And, if you want, you can add them to a force and then print the force as a PDF, 8 cards per sheet of paper.  Really nice built in feature.

Well, I plan to print them out anyway so "assembling a force" is as simple as selecting the cards you want and done!

As of this posting, btw, you find the Alpha Strike Role under the Basic Filters button when you use the Units option. You could also filter for Size by using tonnage ranges (0-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-100.)

The Alpha Strike button is for unit SA, like IF, ENE, etc.

All told, if you learn a few tricks, you can use the MUL to quickly narrow down your list of suspects for Force Building. Especially if you right click on your link to open the candidates in a new tab.

Select wallet size, prints nine cards per sheet, cut them out and place in baseball card sleeves. Get some wet erase markets and Bobs your uncle.  :))
