Silicon molding of Heroscape Terrain
« on: 04 December 2011, 19:13:13 »
In my current contemplation how to make easy add on terrain bases for Heroscape, I have stumbled over some people making custom pieces using resin casts of the Heroscape basis pieces.

I was thinking before about buying water-tiles in bulk and using them as basis for rough Terrain, Buildings, forests etc. But did not know how to solve the issue with larger buildings. John Backwell had a great idea with his polystyrene Triangles, but I would prefer something that interlocks the same way the rest of the terrain does.

Now I have seen that some Heroscapers did just make a mold off of some terrain pieces to create their own unique tiles.  Does anyone of you know if that is a legal option as long as I only use the stuff to make my own terrain (no marketing, selling or use for commercial purposes). It just seems to be ideal.

as long as your not selling it, AFAIK it's legal to do.

First of all, thanks for the nod.

Personally, I say go for it.  I don't believe you're profiting from others' work but making adaptations for your personal use.

@John, you are more than welcome - trying to cast them out of resin also reflects my lazyness as much as everything else :)

I started looking into a quick way to have forests before I had the time to build them your way and figured I'd just use swamp water for lights and shadow pools for heavy. Than I read about the casting and figured I'd just make colored water tiles of different colors for different features - gray for Building bases and roads, different greens for Forests etc. and then just build stuff ON those and paint them once I get around.

Hey, simplicity is sweet and . . . well . . . simple.  Have at it.  Tiles of different colors take up far less space and are much more durable than physical structures.  They're easier to develop so you can move to the game-play.  There's never anything wrong with keeping it simple.

If this works, I plan on building stuff on top of the tiles like you do :D

Also I really want to build abridge (well multiples) your way...

You can copy anything You purchase for Your own use.

Remember that molds have their life expectancy, too.
