BeemerCon 2020 After-Action Report
« on: 10 October 2020, 09:07:59 »
A special BattleTech gathering was held earlier this year, the first of its kind. Bringing together official BattleTech forum admins, moderators, developers, contributors and freelancers–affectionately known as “Beemers” for the colored icons they wear on the forums–this first-ever BeemerCon saw three days of hard-fought games across three days and continents around the world.

We’re pleased to bring you this comprehensive after-action report of all the games, written by two of the leading lights in bringing this behind-the-scenes gathering together: Matt “Blacknova” Alexander and Marc “LyranWolf” Follin.

That was a fun writeup!  Thanks for posting it!

And I was the first to lose the Warcrow.  In my defense, it was 4 on 1.

Great write up, although I would have loved pilots names on the rest of the matches other than Masters and Minions.

I piloted the Phoenix Hawk in Wolves vs Falcons, one of the Jade Phoenixes in the RecGuide game, and the Exterminator in the Experimental Tech game.  IIRC Ray piloted a Marauder in the RecGuide game, and Dark ISI piloted the Locust

First game was me v LyranWolf and DarkISI?, I think.

Second game, was a host of folks, but I missed games 3 and 5. 4 was about 15 players I think, so we stayed away from names in that one. M&M we put in names, as that was people taking names.

I was in one of the Griffin C’s in the Rec Guide game—the first one that went down, that avenged Ray’s flaming corpse.

I was fighting alongside Cubby. Both sides decided to gang up on us from the start.  There’s something about Ray that draws fire. We never stood a chance.  xp

He's just so much fun to shoot at.

I do like how Cubby fired us all up on the Masters team, said careful everyone, then took 5 pilot hits and toddled off for a five round nap.  :D

It was an absolute blast and I am glad everyone enjoyed the AAR.

The gamelog shows Wolves vs Falcons was
GM - DarkISI
Horned Owl - Artirian
Wolfhound IIC - Atlas3060
Wulfen C - Highlander00
Arctic Wolf II B - Lyran Wolf
Vulture Mk IV - Roundtop
Phoenix Hawk - Lorcan

Experimental Tech
Annihilator - DarkISI
Juggernaut - Lyran Wolf
Great turtle - Roundtop
Penthesilea - Artirian
Exterminator - Lorcan
Kraken - Wierdo
Banshee - Atlas3060
Ryoken III - Highlander00

RecGuide
MadCapellan
DarkISI
Jimdigris
NCKestrel
Scotty
Atlas3060
Blacknova
Highlander00
Gideon
Spaceman
Lorcan
Cubby
and lyran Wolf going crazy trying to keep things running before we crashed a Megamek instance.

Gideon was in the Marauder receiving all of the high-speed salutations in the one picture.

There was an impromptu all Dominator game that did not get an AAR.  Well and the poor soul who was given an Urbie IIC as it was their first MegaMek outing.

And yes next time use Gideons bullet attraction SPA as an advantage.  Hand him a hardened armor or Ferro-Lam zombie and let everyone dance to your tune.

[glows with cartography pride]

Thanks for that great AAR write-up! And amused that no-one wanted to cross the abandoned quarry in the face of fire.
"That's Lieutenant Faceplant to you, Corporal!"

Things that I have learnt through clicking too fast on 'Move Done' on MegaMek: Double-check the CF of the building before jumping onto it, check artillery arrival times before standing in the neighbouring hex, and don't run across your own minefield.

"Hmm, I wonder if I can turn this into a MM map."

Yeah, but no one told him the commands, so he was like a toddler out there.

That Master Minions fight was fun, I'll never see my decision to push the conga line with my Kodiak as a bad idea.  ;D
