I love seeing SW designs. I must say that this is not at all the way I prefer to design, and I think that's why I like it. A crazy mix of missiles and a couple lasers mixed in. Seems pretty cool to me. Well done!

In fact, once mechwarriors got over the surprise of what it was designed to be, they found it to be quite successful at it's job.Capabilities:The designers decided that the following requirements were a must for it's intended role: speed, flexible firepower, staying power, protection and heat efficiency. And it is hard to argue against them having succeeded in fulfilling them all.Certainly by being built around a 250 rated engine, the Fury compares well in ground speed with it's more famous cousins, the often toted “fifty five trio” (Griffin, Shadowhak, Woverine, ed), although it lacks jump jets.As for the firepower, three five shot long range missile launchers give it a pretty good throw weight down field across even the longest of ranges, while two four shot short range missile launchers give the Fury similar heft at shorter ranges. Finally, a pair of medium lasers rounds out the armament. While seeming almost like a after thought, they do add even more short range firepower, and also give the Fury a weapon that is not limited by ammunition. The staying power comes from having three tons of said ammunition to go through. Two for the long range launchers and one for the short range ones. Although it was not designed for such a role this has proved to enable the Fury to use specialized ammunition for it's long range launchers, only adding to the mech's already considerable flexibility.Protection was not ignored either, with ten and a half tons of armour covering the Fury's sturdy 50 ton chassis, only slightly below it's theoretical maximum. Finally there was heat efficiency, all too often the bane of a otherwise promising design. While eleven heat sinks, single, of course, might not seem like even sufficient, as long as the pilot remembers his range brackets, a fact that should be, literally as well as figuratively, drilled into any recruit, even with the benefit of the advanced techology the Magistracy designers did not have access to, they should be sufficient. In fact the Fury can keep up a continuous long range missile bombardement as long as it has the ammunition to feed it's launchers, and even move at it's full eighty kilometers per hour maximum speed with only negible overheat. A story that is only improved at it's shorter ranged bracket where it can fire all it's short ranged weapons and move at full speed without any worry about the heat gauge. Truly not a feat to be scoffed at.All in all while hardly a spectacular design, and certainly more than a little bit of a odd ball one, the Fury can only be considered a successful design, as long as one keeps in mind it's role and limitations.Deployment:While considered too oddball to be ever truly as popular as perhaps it should be, the Fury has in fact achieved considerable export success. It is, albeit in limited numbers, in service with all the Great Houses, Comstar, and even some mercenary groups. That having been said it's primary user remains the Magistracy armed forces, which were after all the ones it was designed for. Also the numbers in service with House Liao seem to be on the rise, most likely due to the close relations between the Magistracy and the Confederation, but we can not say this with any real certainty at this point.Variants:Several exist. Most of which involved changing the missile launcher layout, sacrificing short ranged missles for long range ones, or vice versa. One even stripped out the lasers for a third short ranged rack.None of these were ever put into production though, so presumably the results, being field modifications, must have been less than stellar. A similar fate befell the various attempts to strap more medium lasers onto the Fury in place of the missile launchers. The designers and the builders felt that the Fury did not need such tinkering. Two factory variants do exist however, both attempts, with mixed success, to update the Fury for the modern age. They are outside the scope of this article however and will be covered seperately.================================================================================Equipment Type Rating Mass --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Internal Structure: Standard 83 points 5,00Engine: Fusion Engine 250 12,50 Walking MP: 5 Running MP: 8 Jumping MP: 0 Heat Sinks: Single Heat Sink 11 1,00 Heat Sink Locations: 1 CTGyro: Standard 3,00Cockpit: Standard 3,00 Actuators: L: SH+UA+LA+H R: SH+UA+LA+HArmor: Standard Armor AV - 168 10,50 Internal Armor Structure Factor Head 3 9 Center Torso 16 24 Center Torso (rear) 7 L/R Torso 12 18 L/R Torso (rear) 6 L/R Arm 8 16 L/R Leg 12 24 ================================================================================Equipment Location Heat Critical Mass --------------------------------------------------------------------------------2 LRM-5s RT 4 2 4,00SRM-4 LT 3 1 2,00LRM-5 LT 2 1 2,00SRM-4 RA 3 1 2,002 Medium Lasers LA 6 2 2,00@LRM-5 (24) RT - 1 1,00@SRM-4 (25) RT - 1 1,00@LRM-5 (24) LT - 1 1,00 Free Critical Slots: 36BattleForce StatisticsMV S (+0) M (+2) L (+4) E (+6) Wt.
