Can we take discussion of the usage of omni-configurations elsewhere?  The OP was very clear in what he wanted, and this is entirely counter to that entire idea.  He is not using custom omni configurations, so the entire point is moot.

What he said. I recall making a customs vs canon thread upforum for this very purpose. Go dig it up and use it, and leave this thread for what the OP meant it for. [copper]

Ok, is there anything else that can help the OP? Available to Adders, at least 5/8/5 is all configurations, and in the heavy range?

Do the Star Adders have access to the Karhu - my assumption is NO but its the only other 5/8/5 heavy omni I can come up with?

Considering availability to Adders, 5/8/5, Heavy, two large beam weapons and critseeking ...

Thresher 2
- yes, I know that armor is not exactly strong, but Thresher 2 has got two ER Large Lasers, two SRM-6s and LBX-5, and ER Medium as a backup.
- it moves 5/8(10)/5
- it even looks like Thor a bit
- Diamond Sharks used to sell it, Thresher 2 is the Hell's Horses refit - so after some Trial perhaps?

No Karhu and I doubt you'd see a Thresher in an Alpha Galaxy unit... the Summoner is the only game in town.

I'm using one, it's really a better strategic asset than a duelist, but hey, this is the Star Adders we're talking about.

Y'all talked me into it.

If anyone has more to add feel free, let's try and keep it on the rails less Weirdo come through again and lock it down.

I really only use the D config for the Summoner, as far as canon goes - the rest of them are just too under-ammo'd for my tastes. Still, a lot of that probably has to do with the kind of maps I take the Summoners on and my playstyle.

There are some alternatives without going into customs, though - the Stooping Hawk and Septicemia. Yes they're mediums, but their speed is the same and their armor is only about 10 points less. They both have jumping configs, and imo most of their configs carry more reliable firepower than the majority of the Summoner's. Both are still present in the Homeworlds after the Reavings, too.

You mock, but just wait until those Hansa warships start shooting each other cuz an Adder Watch warrior shot them with his mech ;)

Seriously, the non-Z configs are good.  But if you pull the NOVA from the E and replace it with whatever... it's a devastating thing.  Possibly the best medium mech ever.

Most of the non-Z configs are good. :) The Prime is kind of lame and the D is just downright frustrating with the over-BV'ed UAC/20 weighing it down. (I mean, come on.. same tonnage as a Gauss Rifle. 5 shots vs. 16. No brainer.)

And yes, the E would be a monster with the Nova CEWS/Light TAG stripped out (or the TarComp, if keeping the Nova). It has heat problems, so (2) to (4) DHS really make it shine.

Luckily the D version of the Summoner doesn't have an autocannon, but the dual larges and mediums tied to a TC make it annoying to fight against.

This one has always sucked for me. I don't get it.  Any other config I can rock out with but the D never lasts long and rarely does the kind of damage one would assume it would.  #P

Eventually I'll exorcise the demon out of it.

Remove NOVA and TAG, add 2 DHS.  Simple fix.  The thing is really simple to use too.

Its probably my fave config.  Great for Dancing the Scars for a Scorpion PC.

Or you can just wait for the upcoming Thor II. Perhaps you will have more luck with it.   ;)

Are you sure that wasn't in 3085 under a different name?  ;)

You mean the Karhu as a rehash of the Summoner? Just as the Bruin is the rehash of the Grizzly on heavier chassis?

Because he created it? That's possible. The Technical Readout: 3145 - The Clans with the Thor II will be published relatively soon ...

I had a buddy do some tricks with some mech builder program and made a 5/8/8 Summoner with no change in armor or weaponry.

This is neat to me only because I haven't made a custom 'mech in about a decade, methinks. Actually, I can't remember the last time I used a custom 'mech.

The base chassis of an OmniMech can't be altered, including the jump jets. Unless it's 100% custom, then it's not a Summoner anyhow. :)
