The pieces were cut out from owens corning one and two inch foam board using a scroll saw type hot knife from Foam Fun Factory. Then they were painted, flocked, and dotted with a sharpy.  They are reversable with green on one side and desert tan on the other.

That looks pretty good .

I'm tempted to buy some tan felt and try spray paint the dots on with
my plexiglass hex template .

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd512/Cobrasks/019.jpg

I recently sprayed white hexes on gray cardboard for some city terrain and it worked pretty good .

That would be cost effective for making a matt  and I could spray hexes
onto smaller pieces and just cut them and glue it on the top of the mountains .

Even better-maybe I could glue the felt onto some cardboard and instead of making MORE
mountains that would take up more room , I can just place the cardboard backed felt on
to my existing mountains to convert them to desert when I need to ...

Wish I had more time to work on this stuff !

Looks great!

I have a probably stupid question for you hex guys. Are the tree hexes inaccessible? Or do you just remove the tree while a unit is in there?

I use a hex with trees and replace it with a figure for a time it stands there.

There is also a possibility - if You use larger hexes than classic 33mm - that tree hex has a bald spot of size of regular hex so You can place a mini there.

That's my choice for doing woods.  I often have done fights with many units.  I couldn't keep track of who is in woods or not.  Being able to leave the trees in place throughout a turn means I don't have to remember who is in a tree or not.  It's also easier on any other players too.

Love the work. :) But is there anything like GeoHex available anymore? I miss that stuff.

The hexed matts are still in production . The rights to produce the matts
were purchased by Monday Knight Productions .

Check here :  http://www.mondayknight.com/Mats/Flocked.html
For now if you want any 3D terrain you have to make it yourself as Jeffrey and
I have .
A seller on Ebay has started to sell newly manufactured and properly copyrighted
Geo-Hex terrain but so far it's just the non-hexed stuff .
No official word has been released yet as to if he will resume making the hexed stuff .
 ( Geo-Hex Battlescape )
He's recently retired from his full time work and has said he wants to
make more terrain so if enough people ask for it he may start
making Battlescape again .
I made a bunch more of my own hexed based terrain over the winter and I wanted to make a
pic thread about it but I've got to much going on right now .
I finished a bunch more hills and modified some JR miniatures 6mm river terrain to work
with 1.5 inch Geo-Hex Battlescape .
I planned on a how-to  produce the stuff post when I can but real life
is keeping me busy .  ( As in children , work ,and family illnesses )

The seller you speak of, is the original owner of Geo-Hex. I actually reached out to him because I used to know the original seller. I asked him specific questions only he would remember from our dealings 20 years ago (yes it was a long shot) and he remembered...so turned out to actually be him. You are correct, he did recently retire, and he plans on making "Battlescape" again...but his guy that did the hex layouts & printing...doesn't want to pick it back up so he's a little stuck with just "Gamescape" until he can find another hex guy.

Thanks . That confirms what I had thought .
I have developed my own method for adding hexes to terrain on
a large scale .
To bad I'm on the other side of the country from the seller .

I'm considering buying some of his standard Geo-Hex terrain sometime and experimenting
with hexing it .
I'd have to pick out something that I had a good picture or sample of the original
to match the pattern correctly .

I'd have more interest in going for it but I just finished a big batch of hills
over the winter and the local I played with the most is moving away .
I gotta find a new gaming group .   :(

Move to Kenosha Wisconsin...we need more players! LOL

There's several shops in the area, 1 of which plays BT...but I hate that they charge $20 a month to play (plus most of the people there are not, well...pleasant in many regards including the owner). The shop I frequent has been asking me to run some games, but I took ~22 years off, and am rusty on the rules...sadly. I found a guy that plays (we play every so often, and he's good) and does a great job of GM'ing so we've talked about getting together at the shop & running some games to get more people playing, but it's never come to fruition.
