Scars of Victoria (Golden Lion AU) Prototype Armors
« on: 19 January 2023, 09:06:17 »
Ground Hog (Proto-Sloth)
Base Chassis
Mass 500Kg
Chassis - 100Kg
Movement 2MP - 30Kg
2 Prototype Armor - 200Kg
170Kg Remaining

Background - Designed by Blue Shot Weaponry of Solaris VII the Ground Hog is the first quadruped 'Heavy Exoskeleton' intended for mining, salvage, and search and rescue operations. Its four stubby legs mimic the motion of a lizard and reduce its profile allowing it to slip through narrow passages. With almost a third of its mass undedicated Blue Shot has experimented with everything from mounting improved sensors at a higher ground speed for military recon or search and rescue to a high powered hose with tank capacity for firefighting in hostile environments. Unscrupulous gangsters and Free Skye militias have mounted a small quad rocket pack on the Ground Hog as well, these are typically called 'Warthogs' and are an increasing concern within the Lyran Commonwealth.

Variants
Ground Hog / Recon/S&R variant
Movement 5 MP - +90Kg
Improved Sensors - +65Kg
Searchlight - +5Kg
Mission Cargo 20Kg

Ground Hog / Firefighting (or starting) variant
Flamer (Vehicle) 150Kg
20Kg Water or Inferno fuel

Warthog / Rocket Technical
Turret - 60Kg
Detachable Rocket Launcher 4 - 110Kg

Aggressor 'Rhino' Suit
Mass 1500Kg
Chassis - 300Kg
Movement 1MP - 0
6 Prototype Armor - 600Kg
2 Heavy Magnetized Battle Claws 80Kg
2 Forearm Anti-Personnel Weapon Mounts 10Kg
2 Shoulder Mounted SRM-3s 360Kg w/ 1 Reload 120
Extra Power Pack 25Kg
Searchlight 5Kg

Background - The Rhino is an in-house modification by the COMGUARDs and ROM utilizing a reinforced version of the StarCorps PEX-A Gorilla suits that their technical groups were already using in construction and maintenance of their HPG facilities and garrisons. With enough armor to take a medium laser the Rhino is able to take point against heavily armed infantry and destroy their positions with its SRMs, heavy battle claws, and forearm mounted assault rifles. It underwent extensive evaluation at Sandhurst on Terra and a Fleet variant was approved after testing around Venus. First deployed outside the Protectorate in an almost successful assassination attempt against Warlord Isoroku Kurita on Hachiman the Rhino would become more visible in future ROM operations throughout the 3040s.

Variants - The Fleet variant of the Rhino suit reduces the size of the SRMs to only four with the balance of mass given over to the necessary modifications for space ops, additional fuel for its thrusters, and extra magazines or power packs for its Anti-Personnel Weapons which can only be changed out by supporting troops.

I definitely like that Hazard Pay

PEX-A Gorilla Industrial Exoskeleton
Mass - 500Kg
Structure - 100Kg
Speed 2MP - 30Kg
Modular Manipulators - 20Kg
Base Model - Cargo Lifter (1 ton capacity) 60x2 = 120Kg
Prototype Armor 2 - 200Kg
Over the Shoulder Cutting Torch/Searchlight 5Kg
Extra Power Pack 25Kg

Background - While StarCorps Industries initially designed the PEX-A for the civilian construction market it quickly found a niche in battlefield technical circles. The extra power pack ensured that operators could utilize the same exoskeleton without recharging it for a whole day even when using power tools. The built in cutting torch or searchlight is mounted on a novel 'third' arm Waldo attached to the left shoulder which folds up into the pauldron when not in use. This enables the welding of armor panels or construction frames of up to one ton by a single operator instead of the usual two.

Variants
With PEX-A being such a recent arrival on the exoskeleton market there are few variants and the ones that do exist are mostly to replace the modular manipulator housing in the wrist with a dedicated variant in order to free up some mass.

Tornado G-X Prototype
Total Mass - 400Kg
Chassis - 80Kg
Armored Gloves - 0Kg
Jump 3 - 75Kg
Prototype Stealth - 200Kg
Power Pack - 25Kg
Heat Sensor - 20Kg

Background - Conceived by Precentor Omega Caligula Sikander in the late 3040s the Tornado G-X incorporated the latest and greatest that COMSTAR could offer its ROM operatives. A jump harness taken from their present SpecOps teams was paired with a prototype stealth armor compound. Life support and sensors were also integrated into the harness. No integral weapons were available but Mauser 1200s were issued to operators, the energy hungry weapon recharged via an integrated power pack.

Unfortunately Omega section was not keen on field testing this wonder-weapon before they authorized production. ROM operatives found the helmets confining and hot, sensor integration was buggy and the ECLSS was unreliable, an embarrassment to an organization that prized itself on its engineering. The 'carapace' was not only difficult to dress in due to the angles involved but the stealth compound required maintenance after each mission in order to work properly. Due to this most ROM operatives issued these suits discarded the helmet favoring the more common mask and fire-resistant hood arrangement they were comfortable in while life support and sensor systems were through more reliable but exposed connections.

Krupp ended up with most ROM operatives refusing the prototypes in favor of their proven sneak suits and regular kit.
