figured i'd start this up since the Sloth BAotW thread is getting a bit of new attention right now.

to me the Sloth's biggest problem is that people keep trying to turn it into some front line heavy combatant, when it is too slow and limited to survive up close to the enemy. it seems to me that the best use for the Sloth as a platform is a platform for longer ranged supporting fire of the more mobile BA.

thus the Sloth (LRM)
this is one that can be done as a refit.. pull one of the small lasers and the pop-up mines, and use the resulting mass to fit a five tube LRM pack with 4 shots, and improve the armor by 50%. a 4 suit Squad is now basically a semi-mobile LRM20 with a defensive gun and enough armor to weather LRM counter-fire.

I think the ideal Sloth refit (only changing weapons) is a turret with two OS-SRM5 and one more OS-SRM5 plus an APWM in the body. 5 points armor is less of a problem when you only have one shot! :D

seems to me that adding a turret to a BA never designed to carry one would require a fairly substantial rebuild? not just a refit.

The way I see it, the refit's about the same as adding a new weapon. It’s a 1-slot surface piece, shouldn't be all that hard.

In this case I'd fluff it as being fixed forward too rather than a real turret. It’s just a big missile rack!

From Support Sloth

The Support Sloth was created by AFFS militia units when they received the Battle Armor Tube Artillery option. Techs stripped the Popup mine and a small laser from the original Sloth, and installed a single BA Artillery Tube with two magazines of four rounds each. They were also able to increase the armor slightly. Not intended for front-line use, the Support Sloth retains the 32km/h ground speed of the original.

As per the Shedu, the Sloth can use detacheable weapon mounts. Maybe borrow them from the Grenadier Config that uses them, IIRC

I'd go for the one that's kind of hinted at in the article, up the armor to 10 points and swap the Pop-up Mine for a SRM 2 rack with 4 reloads.

I had a variant back in the day where I just striped it and made it a pack mule for the infantry in rugged terrain.

My upgrade would use two Support PPC instead of the Lasers and an LRM 4 Oneshot instead of the mines.
Armor is upgraded to the inner Sphere Standard of 9. Still using Standard Armor plating.

I guess you could use a full Medium Laser instead of the Dual PPCs but the sloth has 2 guns under the Cockpit.
