[BF & QS] LAM rules?
« on: 28 February 2011, 23:50:46 »
Not sure if this was ever asked prior to the demise of the old forums, but are there any rules out there for using LAMs in either Battleforce or Quickstrike?

I'm curious cause I'm thinking of trying to play out scenarios from some of the older books (Sorenson's Sabres, especially, which features a PHX LAM prominently) using the Quick Strike rules.  Thanks in advance!

When in 'Mech mode, it operates as a normal 'Mech with the normal abilities.

When in ASF mode, it operates as a normal ASF with the normal abilities.

When in LAM mode, it flies like a WiGE.  There are rules for flying WiGEs in the movement area of BattleForce that tell you how.  Now LAMs can pull up and raise their elevation which WiGEs can't do, but in general for LAMs you start with the WiGE rules that are in BattleForce and fly with them.  :)

Where are those rules at?   You have access to a play-test  thingy that we dont?     [notworthy] [drool]

The non-QS rules for LAMs is in RS 3085 ("print" version, available in print or PDF..).
As for QS, he's just making straightforward guesses.

Seeing as how QuickStrike is a rules expansion of BattleForce, I don't see how using BattleForce rules in QuickStrike could be considered a "guess."

If you'll point out where LAMs are given rules in BattleForce, I'll concede your point :).

I did not mean guesses negatively.  But LAMs are not mentioned in Strategic Operations, either for BF or QS, so any rules for them are technically house rules.  By straightforward, I meant yours were fairly obvious and/or non-controversial as far as house rules go, in my opinion.

Well argued.  ;)

Yes, the only LAM rules we have are BattleTech rules, however most of the rules talk about how the designs move using WiGE rules with some mods, and there ARE rules for WiGEs in BattleForce.

So yes, it takes some mental flips to use LAMs in BattleForce.  Of course it has always taken mental flips to use LAMs in BattleTech as well.
