I would default to GDL Scouts here.

If only GDL Scouts had models.     I'd probably have to mod Nighthawks or Tornados to get them to fit.

IMO, you don't have enough ISS & GD designs for your units.
They are going to be more common than anything but Davions who will have more Cav/IF2

Keep in mind that each Platoon is 3-4 Squads.  In terms of models, I probably don't need a company's worth of each one for a playable collection.

I was quite looking forward to this event however due to some personal reasons I was unable to participate. Hopefully I can have a chance to attend the next event.

I know it does.  That's why I hope it will be fixed by the time Record Sheets become available on the MUL.

the new site is being scratch-built from the ground up by a professional software dev.

note: our original dev, skyhigh, is a professional software dev as well, but is a volunteer. it's a lot to expect him to carry this on indefinitely.

It's Meta, they are focusing on the Metaverse instead of fixing current problems.

For Mercenary, I'm looking at:
Platoon 1) Inner Sphere Standard
Platoon 2) Grey Death Standard
Platoon 3) Night Hawk PA(L)?
I would default to GDL Scouts here.

For Davion, I'm looking at:
Platoon 1) Inner Sphere/Grey Death Standard OR Cavalier
Platoon 2) Infiltrator Mk II
Platoon 3) Grenadier
Platoon 4) Hauberk?
ISS, IF2, Cav, Grd(orHbk)

For Steiner, I'm looking at:
Platoon 1) Infiltrator MK II
Platoon 2) Rottweiler
Platoon 3) Sloth
Platoon 4) Fenris
GDL Scts, ISS, Fenris,  (Rott or Sloth)

My one issue with strting folks off in 3025 is that a lot of the forcepacks currently sold have mechs that are post then and don't have downgraded models, meaning that if someone likes the game and picks up a Forcepack they think looks cool they can then get told "no, you can't use that."  While it is a bit more complicated I personally think that For everything past a specifically set up learners game you really want to use at least clan invasion era tech.

If we're talking about introducing newbies to the game, I'd assume that the organizer is providing the mechs (honestly, I'd use the cardboard standees from AGoAC of the Beginner Boxes for this).

I wouldn't expect the players to provide their own mechs because that's a significant investment.
The whole point of having a beginner league is that YOU can help them play a few games to see if they're into it.

But if they DID buy a shiny new set of mechs, they'd still probably be shit outta luck because you need the record sheets too. I would kindly and gently inform them that "We don't have the record sheets for those mechs handy, but we do have these mechs ready to go."

Part of doing a beginner league with pre-selected mechs (provided by the organizer), is that you can have all of the mechs ready to go with all of the record sheets and whatnot needed to field them.

If the Cappies didn't waste their time with the Cataphract and went with the Urbie II they'd have won the 4th Succession War. JK

Ground Combat / Building Battle Armor Companies
« Last post by Charistoph on 03 June 2024, 19:58:03 »
Okay, I'm looking to expand my Battle Armor collection to being more than the basic Elementals and Sphere Suits.  I'm' not too worried about Clan set ups, they're mostly consistent across the board and the options are clear for the most part.

However, I want to look at building 3 different Inner Sphere Companies.

Rules for the Company:
A Platoon will equipped the same.
Where possible, a Company will have Scout Platoon, Heavy/Assault Platoon, and a "main combat" Platoon.
No 2 Platoons will be equipped the same.

The 3 companies I'm looking to build are Steiner (4 Platoons), Davion (4 Platoons), and Mercenary (3 Platoons).  Eras are largely meaningless, as most of our local play doesn't care, and in the case of campaign concepts, I think the ones needed for a Platoon might be enough.

For Mercenary, I'm looking at:
Platoon 1) Inner Sphere Standard
Platoon 2) Grey Death Standard
Platoon 3) Night Hawk PA(L)?

Not very inspiring, but I have 2 of the 3 collected.  The MUL wasn't very inspiring as to what to consider for the 3rd Platoon.  Grenadier and/or Infiltrator MK II would be good options, I think, but I'm a little concerned about availability.

For Davion, I'm looking at:
Platoon 1) Inner Sphere/Grey Death Standard OR Cavalier
Platoon 2) Infiltrator Mk II
Platoon 3) Grenadier
Platoon 4) Hauberk?

All good signature designs, I think, however, a bit heavy on the one end.  Maybe using Cavaliers instead of the Hauberks?

For Steiner, I'm looking at:
Platoon 1) Infiltrator MK II
Platoon 2) Rottweiler
Platoon 3) Sloth
Platoon 4) Fenris

I "need" to eventually get Sloths for a campaign I'm running where the players are Falcons.  The Steiners also seem to be in love with the Quad Design, so it would be in keeping to keep up the theme for the company.  The Infiltrator's a little outside the theme, but I can double up with the Davion for easy access.

So, thoughts, suggestions?

If you're reducing a fixed position, artillery is cheaper and more effective (not to mention less likely to take return fire).
Of course artillery is good at reducing a hardened fighting position, but if you look at basically every war from World War I to World War II to the Korean War, Vietnam war, Balkan kerfufles, Desert Storm, the Chechen fiascos, to the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war, an earth and concrete fortification is surprisingly hard to really definitively destroy. The only way to be sure about clearing it out is to drop pgms directly into it, flush it out with infantry, or draw a bead on it with a heavy cannon.

?? on  Mechanized Infantry
            2 IFV HQ + Heavy Transport + 4 Heavy Truck + 2 MRAP
            12 IFV + 3 Infantry Platoon + 2 Assault Guns(hetzer-like)
                1st Platoon (1 foot platoon, 4 IFV)
                2nd Platoon (1 foot platoon, 4 IFV)
                3rd Platoon (1 foot platoon, 4 IFV)
                Weapons Platoon (2 Assault Guns(hetzer-like))

Are these Hetzers or a yet unknown design perhaps smaller packing a AC10 or something smaller there the AC20?

While I like this idea for a force, I would also like to see something with SRM for short range Urban Ambush and fire from with or beside alleyways
It could be a Hetzer but really I'm referring more to the Sturmgeschutz form factor than anything else. A casemate weapon carrier with a front plate thick enough to protect it until it gets in close enough to give the other guys a proper greeting.

Ther are SRMs for short range urban ambushes. They're carried by the infantry. As for dedicated SRM vehicles, that would probably be something for ARCTs to truck around, or Ad Hoc constructions produced locally.
