The Barrens

Does anyone have any information about this mysterious state, or collection of worlds? I only know of it from the map, but it's an area that encompasses the former Greater Valkyrate, Oberon Confederation, and Elysian Fields.

I can only offer idle thought, but I think they're meant as sign that the Clans have become true IS factions - they just don't have holdings beyond an artificial line like the former Lyran/Combine corewards frontiert, no matter how illogical that is in some cases.

By earlier information it appears to be Clan renegades, pirates and remnants of dead clans that inhabit these worlds.  The Other Clans appear to use them as target practice for New Mech designs

It's the one Hellions unit I've ever been fond of.  Looked down upon by other Hellions because they use a disproportionant number of heavies and assaults, and because they have many freeborn, including several as high as Star Captain.  And yet it was considered the most capable Hellion galaxy.

In FM:CC it was commanded by their oldest warrior on active duty.  From FM:U on (AFAIK) it was commanded by a Ghost Bear abtakha.  Those had to do wih the success, and also with the derision.  But makes me like them more too.  That unit's the one reason I'd ever go Hellion.

Were there any survivors? I know the 1st Oberon Guards survived the Clan Invasion, though were disarmed, and were commanded by Johann Grimm a some point.

Susie Ryan and her battalion made it off of Star's End when the Hell's Horses invaded so they should still be a viable Bandit Kingdom still, it'd be good to see the Oberon Guards/Confederation back as well.

Maybe the Barrens will become the new Oberon Confederation. Butte Hold and the worlds of Morgaine's Valkyrate were once part of it, and the Elysian Fields were once a protectorate of it.

As the clans seem to use the area as a testing ground for new warriors by the 3130's i could see a loose alliance of Bandit Kingdoms in the area, controling 1 system each, rather than 1 organised government.

Do the Barrens actually encompass the old Chaneline Isles too? There was some Shark activity there at the end of the Jihad...

So do I. Like the bulk of the Deep Periphery there is little menion of them during and post Jihad. Also considering that the Sharks were conducting 'business' there, one can assume that the Isles must have seen their fair part of action... aside from the usual fratridal warfare  :D

I wonder if they were abandoned due to fighting between Homeworld and Spheroid Clans. I'm also curious as to why the Horses abandoned Star's End. Perhaps it was wrecked by inter-clan warfare?
