(Answered) Active Probe use detectable?
« on: 10 March 2013, 22:30:05 »
Say side A is looking for something (not a hidden unit), Side B is unaware said object is on the map.

When A starts probing can B detect that he is looking for something?

I am guessing that the probe sends out a detectable signal (It is called an 'active probe').  In real life radar and sonar pings can be heard beyond the ranges that they are useful.

I'm guessing that any unit on the map would know somebody was using an Active Probe.

Maybe i should clarify.

Side A is looking for something, it's hidden on the map.  Side B is unaware that the item is there.  If Side A starts using Active Probes will Side B know they are probing?

There are no rules that govern at what range active equipment can be detected.

Generally speaking, electronics equipment is always on. In fact, having it off and then turning it on will be noteworthy, so for this mission, it'd be best to keep it on the entire time, which will then appear as if you're looking for Hidden Units.

Note that the Doubleblind rules in TO make no distinction between detecting a unit that has an Active Probe, and a unit that does not.
The solution is just ignore Paul.
