Fighter Drop Tanks
« on: 26 January 2011, 10:57:03 »
I know fighters can carry 0.5 tons of fuel on hard point mounts, but which TW/TM/TO/SO book and page is that covered in? I can't find the rule anywhere (other than AT2R).

StratOps, page 35. "External Fuel Tanks" is the name of the section.

Now the scary thing is, didn't you write that section? Or did I? Cause I forgot it was there as well.

Sooo, here's a thought, but if you can have 1/2 ton external pods,  why can't we assign fuel in 1/2 ton allotments on fighters?

Maybe I don't WANT that stupid extra small laser,  maybe I'd LIKE to have a little more legs on my fighter.

Game balance, mostly. Kinda like why fractional accounting was taken out of the ground combat rules, making a ton of old vehicles... annoying to restat.

I don't know what the reason was, but "game balance" clearly wasn't it . . .

You can.

I also looked at the Fanpro release, the text is in there as well.

Good to know, I still use HM-Aero that is based off AT2 and never noticed that change in TM.

This is one of those many lines where the rules say you can do something, but you'll be hard pressed to find a canon design that does.

No design does. Hell: I'd'a sworn we were told in TM that fighters could only add fuel in one-ton lots . . .

Something about LAMs, maybe?

No, drop tanks were something from AT2R. Not my work, though I was a peanut gallery member during its drafting.

Well most fighters pre-date TM so not much we can do there.
But hopefully some new ones will do a 1/2 ton slot somewhere.
I can really see it on Conventionals that don't have the ability to just add in a SL w/o a Fusion Engine or tack on some extra armor.

In a some what related note, where can I find the fuel capacity of battle armor and battlemech fuel tanks for use in space? No not the base amount per jump jet, how much fuel do you get when you add a extra fuel tank to these units.
I believe a battlemech gets a smiler amount of fuel per ton as a ASF dose, but I have no info on BA units.

This was just answered on the old forums, but it was lost when Deathshadow rolled back the old forums to October.

I believe 'Mechs only get 40 points of fuel per ton, though I can't find the matching page reference.

Well that answers that but what about BA fuel tanks?

And the fuel quote is pg 24/25 on my copy of SO (though it's an older copy...)

But it mentions nothing on BA, other than to see TM (pg 255), which says to look at later books for that info...
