[random] I'm slowly adding the new AFFS units listed in the Field Report 2765 to Sarna, which is both oddly satisfying and rather fun (I'm twisted, I know) and I've just hit the Robinson Chevaliers. The Chevaliers have one of the more interesting write-ups (IMO) because I like being able to link them back to an earlier Age of War brigade and I like the idea of the regiments being linked to knightly orders.
As a part of the write-ups I've been doing quick wiki searches to see if there's a specific page for a knightly order that looks to have been the inspiration for the unit, which is also rather interesting - I'd never heard of the Order of the Black Swan, for example.
Then I hit the Fifth Robinson Chevaliers, the "Riders of St. George". Here I am, quietly pottering away in between work demands with a unit write-up, and I have the vague idea in my head that there's probably more than one chivalric order associated with St. George, given that all sorts of countries imported him to be the patron saints of all sorts of things including butchers and the like. Sure enough, there are half a dozen or so Orders of St. George, not to mention orders that include his name, such as the Order of St. Michael and St. George.
Not a problem, I think - quick google search for "Riders of St. George".
Only the first article returned is an Urban Dictionary for "Riding St. George" which might give some useful technique tips on something that has nothing to do with knightly orders of chivalry if I didn't think the work internet filter would go nuts if I looked at the article. Still, that's not likely to be anything to do with the knightly order, right?
Then I check the unit description, which is all about how everyone in the regiment was expected to master a fencing discipline, and how the MechWarriors in the unit prided themselves on their swordsmanship. And all I can hear in my head is the voice saying "yeah, I bet they really did pride themselves on their... swordsmanship."
Now I can't stop wondering if I've just had a random set of coincidences trigger my sense of humour or if the Fifth Robinson Chevaliers are actually a carefully-crafted in-joke that I hadn't picked up before... but I'm not sure I want to know one way or the other, because knowing for certain might take all the fun out of the idea of the Fifth sticking it to the DCMS during the Succession Wars...[/random]
