Saw The Revenant last night. How do I get those 2.5 hours of my life back? Beautiful scenery, so I can understand the cinematography award, but writing and directing was utter crap. I counted at least two double-taps from Glass' musket. I still haven't figured out how the Ree Indians didn't manage to track him down right after he was abandoned, you know, when he was bloody and crawling through the SNOW. I think most of the problem areas revolve around the dramatic parts they felt they needed to fabricate to make the story more Hollywood. None of them fit whatsoever.

Never heard of that film.  Had to look it up on IMDB.

Just saw Tarzan, it was ok. The animal stuff was really good, story and acting no so much. If it wasn't for Samuel L Jackson it would of been a really boring movie.

Watched 2 tonight (well 1 and started the other)..

First up (the one i didn't finish) was a thriller, Identical..  Concept is if you want a better life, you can do all those 'self help' things, but they often don't work..  So have the company 'get you a better life' (in other words, someone who's identical to you and IN that better life, you replace)..  Concept was very decent, but the application/film was crap..  Turned it off after 20 or so minutes..

Then came Tina Fey in Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.  Bloody good film.

At 6PM I'll be watching Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014) on FX.

At 8PM I'll be watching Divergent (2014) on TNT.

I have not seen either of them before.

Just watched Star Trek Beyond. It feels more like a classic adventure, a bit introspective at that. I would rate it an 7 out of 10.

Re-watched the remake of "The Italian Job" - still a good watch.

Also just started watching "Stranger Things" on Netflix; very promising series (I know the current season is over, but I haven't gotten there yet.)

Pale Rider.

A classic but its really pretty bad  ;D

Had the disk sitting in the house for a few weeks, but between my work schedule and the kids being out of school for the summer, I finally got around to watching "The Hateful Eight." A decent enough flick, but not one I'd be clamoring to watch again any time soon.

Yeah, this one was much more Trek than the first two.  Abrams hates Star Trek, so the ones he wrote he tried to turn into Star Wars.  This one was done by Trek fans so thwy took it back to what Trek was.

I liked the nods to Enterprise continuity as well.

I hope rhey bring back Jayla.  Already heard some suggest her as the new helmsman since Anton Yelchin wont be available to play Chekov anymore

I saw the new Trek last night and really enjoyed it :) The humor was spot on and I had a bit of a tear in my eyes when the Enterprise gets annihilated.  I liked the acting, the chemistry between characters, it was all very well done.  A good and solid movie i'd suggest watching :) 7.5 - 8 out of 10 i'd say.

Why am I not surprised? James Gunn totally called it: people are going to learn the wrong things from Guardians of the Galaxy. Namely i'm-so-hipster-i'm-retro music and wisecracks galore.

Um, Star Trek in 2009 used the same Beastie Boys song, thats why Kirk called it a 'good pick' in Beyond. Guardians came out in 2014, so you could say Trek was in fact doing it before it was cool.

Star Trek Beyond was a great time. Definately better then Into Darkness.

Well picked up three from the local library today.

First up will be K-pax with Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges.
Next would be Criminal with Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones and a bunch of other good names.
Last is a Nicole kidman thriller, Before i go to sleep..

Did he call it a good pick in the trailer? Cause I don't remember that part.
Well the current trend still irks me.

Well, i watched Criminal first.  Plotline was similar to stuff done before, but done in a better way.  I loved how Kevin's character went from a 'i feel nuthin' butthead, to someone who was willing to sacrifice himself for a wife and kid of the man in his head..
Tommy was very convincing as the Doc, but man does he look his age..
And Oldman, standard oldman...

Of those movies i picked up monday, i did Kpax this evening.  Very enjoyable.  And how it ended did kind of make you wonder..  Was Spacy faking it (mental) or was his body 'being ridden BY the alien mentality'>??

I really liked K-Pax. In most of the movies I have seen Kevin Spacey does rather well. Another movie of his for those needing a comedy, try The Ref with Spacey and Denis Leary. Going to try for that one this weekend as well as Tank Girl and either Hackers or Sneakers.

Or might just decide to blow $10 and go see the new Independence Day. Watched Beyond day after its release and found it enjoyable. Still not sure of the title though.. that at least could have been better.

"The Ref" is a very fun movie to watch - probably the role you'll ever feel the most empathy towards Leary's character.  >:D

Agreed about Kevin Spacey; off the top of my head, I'd say "The Usual Suspects" is one of his best performances.

Ever seen Swimming with Sharks?  They try to pull that old switcheroo of making you hate Kevin Spacey's character and try to make him sympathetic by the end.  Not crazy about the ending, but he's a good villain.

As for hackers Vs Sneakers.  IMO go with Sneakers!
