Having recently watched Pacific Rim and with the new Godzilla movie coming out this year I had a taste for some Kaiju action.  So, I slipped the Gamera Trilogy into my player (Gamera: Guardian of the Universe, Gamera 2: Attack of Legion, and Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris).  Some pretty entertaining stuff, if you're into Kaiju movies.   ;)

You could make the argument that those are the greatest Kaiju movies ever made. If you are a fan, read what you can on the director of those films. He wanted to do Godzilla movies but Toho wouldn't let him. They gave him Gamera instead. Of course when he knocked Gamera out of the park, Toho green lighted his Godzilla project. While his Godzilla movies are good, they are not as good as the Gamera  trilogy. A wasted opportunity IMHO. On the other hand, if not for him Gamera would have joined Trigrapa(sp?) Gorgo(sp?) and Vivran (sp?) as forgotten monster moves.

BTW do you have the original ADV release? The Tiger Lily style redub is worth the price of admission alone. Hilarious!

Watched Stand Up Guys with the guys. It's got Walken, Pacino, and Alan Arkin. There's something of a a slow start, but it's well acted and solidly constructed.

We discuss it at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wdgVgFrWz4

Stand up guys was only OK for me.  With that list of 3 great names i expected it to be much better.

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil!
We hear that there are tumults and riots in Rome, and that voices are raised concerning the army and the quality of our soldiers. Make haste to reassure us that you love and support us as we love and support you, for if we find that we have left our bones to bleach in these sands in vain, then beware the fury of the legions.

I had an auteur-driven weekend watching first The Grand Budapest Hotel and then Noah.  I unreservedly recommend both.

Just arrived home from seeing Noah, and let me tell you that I could rant about that for days. PM me if you want details. It's quite confusing even for me to understand and I've even researched this stuff. I'd warn people that it's quite confusing and may not be suitable for children.

I think that the director said it was supposed to be a survival-horror story.

Just watched 47 Ronin.

Bland, not really all that entertaining, can't recommend it to anyone tbh.

Which just annoys the hell out of me.  The ChÅ«shingura is such a classic.

Well, it was an unfortunate mish-mash of western and oriental ideals, something had to give.

In this case, it was excitement. :P

It was the love story, and the prominence of the half breed that sunk it for me.

That's pretty great to hear. It looked that way from the trailer, but I had a small doubt that I was actually missing out on a hidden gem.

I watched Modern Problems last night, a Chevy Chase movie from 1980.  A fun movie, kinda cheesy at times but it has it moments.  The funny thing is that I was thinking about this movie a couple of weeks ago, couldn't remember the title, then found it on Netflix last night.

My wife took me to see Veronica Mars last night.   I was a big fan of the series, and the movie was great for the Marshmallows, but I could see where someone jumping in at that point would be pretty lost.  But friends who went and saw it and never new anything of the show other than "plucky girl detective" enjoyed the story for itself.

Caught 2 'snoozers' last night.  Jackie Chan's newest flick, Chinese Zodiac.  Almost akin to his earlier work Operation Condor and the like.  Poor acting and plotline, decent fight scenes.  That's all it had imo going for it..
The 2nd was The bag man with John Cusak and Robert De niro.  Man how both of them could put their names to such a poor movie is beyond me.  Not even worthy of 2 stars out of 5.

Watched Gravity over the weekend, really enjoyed it, and I wish I could have seen it in the theaters.  I don't think my little 32" HDTV does it justice.

Hellraiser was our movie of choice this week. It held up as well as you could want for a movie made in '87, but it's just so wicked crazy it's impossible not to be a little charmed by it. Also, it stars Andrew Robinson, who played Garak in Deep Space Nine, so that's a plus.

Watched 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaugg' last night. Now I enjoyed the first movie well enough, and I loved the LotR Trilogy, but this movie just wasn't what I expected. Having read the book wwwwaaaaayyyyyy back in the day I am wondering how they are going to get a 3rd movie out of the last 30 pages or so of the book from where this movie left off.

Saw Gravity in the cheap theater ($3 Whoo!)  Glad to have seen it on the large screen, though this I would have liked to see in 3-D.   It was fun, in an intense way, and my wife wished we had seen it at Cinetopia, because she could have used a drink, or two.

It's up there for one of the great Civil War movies. It had some great parts in the movie.

80s binge!!

Past three days after work I've watched Robocop I, Diehard I, and Terminator I.  Tomorrow is the first Indiana Jones movie.
One does not just walk into Detroit

She ignored the dragon, and Freddy Mercury who arrived to battle it with the Power of Rock.
