Finally got around to watching "Django Unchained" after it sat around on my coffee table for about two weeks. Figured it was time to watch it or send it back to Netflix.

Decent enough flick, decent acting all around. I was told today the scene where Leo cuts his hand and it's bleeding was supposedly unscripted.

I'm curious if others got the sense that Stephen was the one that actually ran Candyland, kind of like a puppeteer.

Never heard of it.

Watched The Family with Robert De Niro. After Meet the Fokkers and Analyze This, I safely assumed De Niro comedies were all insultingly bad. A friend of mine put on The Family and I was surprised that it had some dramatic meat on its bones. I would have preferred if they'd done some things differently, but it was good overall.

Finally got around to watching The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug.  Pretty good.

I found myslef really trying hard to like it more than I did...it just had a strange 'feel' to me vs the other movies of the series.

Been hooked on the series 'Grimm' on Amazon Prime. Had a rough start but has really gotten good about half way through the first season.

Me too, I have one more disk and I am done with season one. Just finished the leave it to beavers episode. I like the humor on the show, like how the Vesen react to him.

Agreed, though I wonder how they recognize that he can see the Vesen form. Did they all grow up second guessing anyone who looked at them weird as a grimm?

Monroe said that when they beast out, he reacts to it. Maybe he emits a smell or he may just give a facial clue that gives him away. It has shown that they have to be close to each other for the vesen to pick up on the Grimm. In both the goat episode and the bird episode the villain went all beast and the Grimm saw them. But the Vesen didn't react to him or ever catch on to him till they got close.

Or in the Bat episode the Vesen assumed that both cops were Grimms.  So maybe he could tell there was a Grimm, but not witch one of them was him. Now this was even after the Grimm "outed" himself when he arrested the bat.

Or it is more likely that the Vesen will react to the grimm however the plot demands. :D

They explained this a couple of episodes ago in the currently airing season.

Spoiler tagged in case people don't want to know until they get to that point of the show.

Monroe and Rosalee tell Nick that his eyes are like bottomless black pools when they vulga (or however it's spelled when they beast-out). But they kind of implied they sometimes see that even when they don't.

That would be a pretty good giveaway, lol. And also explain why they need to be close to tell. Just finished the first season last night, the cliffhanger with Juliette was pretty much how I expected it to go down but I DID NOT see the twist with the 'woman in black'. I am really enjoying this show.  ;D

I watched The Dictator, which was funnier than I expected it to be - Cohen can be a bit hit and miss for me - and then Dead Heads, which unfortunately was a comedy that didn't make me laugh once. It could be me - Super Troopers had the same problem - but I'm mulling over the comment on the cover from Screenjammer that declares it's "...sure to find itself becoming a cult classic".

It's more interesting than optimal, and therefore better. O0 - Weirdo

My kids were watching "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2" the other day, and I would peek up at the screen from time to time. Is it just me, or did the famous scientist (and his lackeys) seem to be done in a style very similar to "Dexter's Lab"?

I haven't seen it yet, but i'm liking the trailer for Frank.  I'm working on making his "most likeable song, ever" into my ringtone.  I'm a tad embarassed to say I never heard of Frank Sidebottom prior to reading an article about Frank the movie.  I'm enjoying the footage of RL Frank and his eternally cheerfull, childlike happiness.

Oh, and i'm going to see Foxcatcher this weekend.

Watched Pompeii and Monuments men sat night, and War inc tonight.  The latter was one heck of a satirical look at commercialism and politics, and typical fare imo from Cusack and his wife.  Monuments men was a decent historical war flick and had some good one liners.  Pompeii was a very good film, and loved Kiefer's turn as being a bad guy.

Did it feature the late John Pinette? That would have been perfect.

There are 2 spoof films, that one and the hungover games.  Neither looks interesting enough to me to watch as both seem to be akin to the hangover etc.

Saw Tapped out, a MMA focused film with Michael Beihn, Lyoto Machida and Anderson Sylva.  Not bad, but wished they had a bit more with anderson and lyoto.

Emperor.

This was a good movie.   Took a chance on it and was rewarded.   No one came off looking much better than they were...  I was impressed by the movie.

Watched Maleficent this weekend with a friend.  She was more into it but even I agree it was a good movie and they did a good job of bringing a more adult spin on an old fairy tale.  Jolie carried the movie, her acting was quite good.  Though I rather expected it to get darker than it did and involve more revenge.

I spent all weekend working on the booklet for a convention I'm helping run at the end of the month, so I had the tv on to listen to/watch while I was working. Watched Avengers Assemble again, which I always find entertaining, and then rewatched Firefly through followed by Serenity. There need to be more space cowboy heist movies.

Since it was mentioned in either this thread or its predecessor, I added "Enemy At the Gates" to my Netflix DVD queue, and it arrived today (well, yesterday, technically). Watched it and definitely enjoyed it, though the end seemed familiar, so I may have watched it before, possibly in '07 when I was deployed to the UAE, and they had a lot of movies on the MWR hard drive.
