Just going to point out that the Spirit Cat story in the Dark Age kind of made the Nova Cat Genocide almost inevitable. Kev Rosse foresaw someone hunting the Nova Cats, and his visions told him the Nova Cats had to get out of the Combine/Republic YESTERDAY or they were going to be destroyed.

Well... he was right, as Nova Cat visions tend to be, only most of the Nova Cats didn't heed his call.

To be fair, people living on Canopus saw that issue coming.

Everyone BUT Clan Nova Cat leadership could see it. Khan Jacali Nostra had she not been so arrogant could have taken her warriors, aerospace assets, and as many civilians as possible (Heck, contract with Clan Sea Fox to transport them all to Marik in exchange for all the Nova Cat factories).

Imagine a Clan Nova Cat 5-6 Galaxies strong in the Clan Protectorate. But Jacali and the other anti-vision Nova Cats would never have allowed it.

That's a problem with having a culture that revolves around post hoc rationalizations for stress-induced hallucinations.

As I’ve said before, if the Cats actually had a mystic pipeline to supernatural guidance, I’d have expected them to have done better.

Trothkin, I'm looking for some feedback. I'm currently working with a military patchmaker to make a Velcro patch for Nova Cat's (old) Alpha Galaxy, to use on the new BattleTech bag and cosplay.

I'm attaching the mockups that they sent me and something doesn't feel right about the background color. Normally, the decals for minis it's just translucent (and on Sarna its a translucent png), but obviously that doesn't work as a background for a military uniform.

What colors would you imagine it to be? I was thinking maybe black background, grey border, or grey background, black border, as standard Nova Cat colors. I could also see an argument for the border being a dark blue (our other standard color).

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

The minimum order is 50, so if you are interested in one, DM me and I will happily share it.

Considering the charcoal grey of the uniform colors, I think the white background actually stand out a bit better then if you made it a dark color. If you make the background to dark it'd just blend in with the charcoal grey. I'd go with an off white grey background and a dark blue (not quite navy blue) border. Also, I think the blue used for the star looks a bit washed out. Can they increase the intensity?

Basically this.  Light slate grey for the background, dark royal blue for the trim, and push the contrast on the daggerstar.  And yes, I am waiting until last-minute panic takes over to make my CNC headpiece, but parable is a cautionary tale, not a role model.

I got the next round of mock-ups and took the advice of parable and Istal_Devalis. I've attached the new versions.

Thoughts? Changes?

If possible you'll want to have the patch over dark grey as opposed to white, though. You'll want to make sure the blue is bright enough to stand out to properly divide the uniform and the patch. But it looks pretty much perfect otherwise.

Awesome! Thanks!

How gray are you thinking? Which one of these (https://blockclub.co/blog/pantone-colorways-our-favorite-shades-gray/)? I'm imagining maybe Cool Gray 11 U contrasted on a black uniform.

Use whatever grey most closely matches your fabric color. Heck, print it, cut out the patch, and just see how well it stands out if you pin it in place.

According to Phil Lee, his next House Marik book, "Letter of the Law" will cover Empire Alone events and will "scratch the Spirit Cats itch".

This and BPL's new video have turned this into an outstanding Battletech day!

Any sense of when it's due out?

I think Tassa_kay saw "BPL" and thought it was a typo for "BLP."  You know, the initials of a former BattleTech author who made himself persona non grata.

Heh, yeah. Would definitely *not* be excited by a post from BLP. But am already loving Tex's new video!

Been reading Dune recently and thinking back to the Mystic program. Some very strong Mentat undertones there.

I think that's exactly right. I've always read the Mystic program's "human targeting computer" as basically a narrative way to describe how the Mentats are human computers. But like the Mentats, the bigger ability that both Mentats and Mystics share is picking up on patterns and then tracing those out to their conclusions.

I'm honestly pretty pleased with how it turned out. If any Nova Cats would like one of their own, DM me. Happy to share with trothkin!

I'd just finished re-reading "Hunting Season" a few days before my PoD copy arrived, so my brain was still fresh in "Marik mode." Definitely enjoyed this and seeing the effects of the ilClan trial on the Clan Protectorate made for a solid read. The ending was kinda concerning to me for some reasons so really can't wait to read IKEO soon.
