Novels about mercenaries?
«

Hiya all,
I'm currently delving into BT lore and I would love to read a bit more about mercenaries. Could anyone recommend me a few novels that deal with mercenaries? Perhaps one about the founding of a new unit and how it struggles to survive? Perhaps some BattleCorps fiction?
The Sage of the Gray Death Legion is known to me (and on the reading list), but beyond that, I'm a bit stumped. And the forum search function didn't quite help me. :)

I'm currently reading
Chaos Born: Book One of the Chaos Irregulars
, which is pretty good so far.

Double-Blind, by Loren L. Coleman, is a story of Avanti's Angels.
Camacho's Caballeros, the 17th Recon Regiment is a mercenary unit featured in the BattleTech novels Close Quarters, Hearts of Chaos, and Black Dragon, all written by Victor Milán.

Decision at Thunder Rift (William H. Keith, Jr.) - Gray Death Legion
Mercenary's Star (William H. Keith, Jr.) - Gray Death Legion
The Price of Glory (William H. Keith, Jr.) - Gray Death Legion
Wolves on the Border (Robert N. Charrette) - Wolf's Dragoons
Wolf Pack (Robert N. Charrette) - Wolf's Dragoons
Main Event (James D. Long) - The Black Thorns
D.R.T. (James D. Long) - The Black Thorns
Close Quarters (Victor Milán) - Camacho's Caballeros
Highlander Gambit (Blaine Lee Pardoe) - Northwind Highlanders
Tactics of Duty (William H. Keith, Jr.) - Gray Death Legion
Hearts of Chaos (Victor Milán) - Camacho's Caballeros
Operation Excalibur (William H. Keith, Jr.) - Gray Death Legion
Black Dragon (Victor Milán) - Camacho's Caballeros
Double-Blind (Loren L. Coleman) - Avanti's Angels
The Dying Time (Thomas S. Gressman) - Gray Death Legion
And the Warrior Trilogy (Michael A. Stackpole) features the Kell Hounds quite a bit (as might the Blood of Kerensky trilogy).
I'm afraid I'm not caught up on the Dark Age novels yet.

There only one Dark Age novel fully focuses on mercenaries, that
Wolf Hunters
by Kevin Killiany.
Others have them appear as part of the story and not necessary force of it.
There a lot books that have mercenaries appear in them in the Dark Age series, but Wolf Hunters is only one written very well and solely stars them.
Masters of War
by Michael Stackpole properly a runner up in mercenary focus books.

I'm partial to the Black Thorns novels.
While I"m an ardent Davionist, Jerimiah Rose and his hatred for the Federated Suns (Commonwealth) makes things interesting.

One I didn't see mentioned, if the OP is still interested, is By Blood Betrayed, one of the Mechwarrior branded novels. Backwater periphery mercs! Able's Aces is the unit. I believe it's a Blaine Lee Pardoe, who I'm personally quite partial to in regards to Battletech novels.
